Patient Safety Competencies In Rural Asn Students: An Evidence-Based Curricular Innovation, Janeen Berndt
Patient Safety Competencies In Rural Asn Students: An Evidence-Based Curricular Innovation, Janeen Berndt
Evidence-Based Practice Project Reports
Hospital clinical experiences are important events in prelicensure nursing education. Benefits include the opportunity for students to experience actual nursing responsibilities, immersion into environment, and professional socialization. However, challenges in finding appropriate clinical experiences include competition over clinical sites, decreasing patient acuity, and high student-faculty ratios. Rural schools of nursing have these challenges and those inherent in rural environments such as limited health care access, restricted critical access hospitals, and limited resources. The purpose of this evidence-based practice project was to plan, implement, and evaluate the use of a series of patient care simulations as an educational intervention to improve …
The Very Best Teaching: Reaching Out To Individuals, John Hilton Iii
The Very Best Teaching: Reaching Out To Individuals, John Hilton Iii
Faculty Publications
The most powerful teaching moments may not always occur in the classroom but rather in other contexts, as teachers directly reach out to students as individuals. Consider this experience of President Thomas S. Monson: When I served as a bishop, I noted one Sunday morning that one of our priests was missing from the priesthood meeting. I left the quorum in the care of the adviser and visited Richard’s home. His mother said he was working at the West Temple Garage. I drove to the garage in search of Richard and looked everywhere but I could not find him. Suddenly …

Student Sample Perceptions Of Organic Food Products And Buying Habits, Alycia M. Deus
Agricultural Education and Communication
The purposes of this senior project were to identify college students’ perceptions and knowledge of organic food. This study also focuses on the respondents’ purchasing and budgeting of organic food. This information is essential to inform farmers and ranchers because it serves as an indicator of future market’s demands.
A thirteen item questionnaire was distributed to sixty-five students attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, enrolled in either Agricultural Education and Communication courses or Agricultural Business courses. Both upper and lower division classes were surveyed. The questionnaires were distributed and collected from June 2, 2009 to June 4, 2009. …
The Effect Of National Standard And Curriculum-Based Exams On Achievement, John H. Bishop
The Effect Of National Standard And Curriculum-Based Exams On Achievement, John H. Bishop
John H Bishop
[Excerpt] Two presidents, the National Governors Association and numerous blue ribbon panels have called for the development of state or national content standards for core subjects and examinations that assess the achievement of these standards. The Competitiveness Policy Council, for example, advocates that "external assessments be given to individual students at the secondary level and that the results should be a major but not exclusive factor qualifying for college and better jobs at better wages (1993, p. 30)." It is claimed that curriculum-based external exit exam systems (CBEEEs) based on world class content standards will improve teaching and learning of …
Vocational And Academic Education In High School: Complements Or Substitutes, Suk Kang, John H. Bishop
Vocational And Academic Education In High School: Complements Or Substitutes, Suk Kang, John H. Bishop
John H Bishop
[Excerpt] A number of blue ribbon-panels have called for increases in the number academic courses required for graduation from high school and for lengthening the school day and the school year. Most states have adopted the first of these recommendations but not the second. With the amount of time a student spends in school remaining constant, increases in the number of required academic courses force reductions elsewhere. Which activities should be reduced? Should the reduction be made in study halls, music and fine arts, physical education, and life skills courses or should it come in vocational education? The answer to this …
Bridging Policy And Education: How Elementary Students Are Impacted By Reform Efforts, Kristen E. Bunn
Bridging Policy And Education: How Elementary Students Are Impacted By Reform Efforts, Kristen E. Bunn
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study focuses on how state policies that encourage school reform impact student experience. The paper demonstrates what students in these reformed schools experience and what lessons we can learn from their experiences. In particular, the research focuses on engagement levels and the matching of intentions to student propensities. A goal of the paper is to help bridge the policy and educational worlds by shedding light on what is happening in four school-of-choice classrooms.
A mixed methodology is used; data from an Educational Connoisseurship and Criticism, an engagement measure, and interviews are triangulated. The research was conducted at two school-of-choice …
