Hi, I’m Kathleen. I have worked as an academic librarian at Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada for the past 13 years. In my role, I help International and domestic students find, evaluate, and use information sources ethically for their research assignments.

This handbook is the culmination of an 8-month sabbatical project to create an open educational resource that supports research assignment design at post-secondary institutions in Ontario.

The study aims at designing a proposed educational program based on geographic cloud computing and measuring its effectiveness in developing research and analysis skills for remote sensing big data for spatial phenomena among humanities track students at the secondary stage in Makkah. To achieve this; An available random sample of (29) students was selected from the study population. The study followed the quasi-experimental approach with a one-group design and used the observation card, and the attitude test to collect data. The American Bar Association (ABA), law students, and employers are demanding that law schools do better when teaching legal research. Academic critics are demanding that law professors begin to apply the lessons from the science of learning to improve student outcomes. The practice of law is changing.

Yet, the data shows that law schools are not changing their legal research curriculum to respond to the need of their students or to address the ABA’s mandate. Interrogating Fake News In The Composition Classroom: Pedagogical Plans, Shelly A. Galliah

The Liminal: Interdisciplinary Journal of Technology in Education

This brief article argues that the skills developed in the first-year Composition classroom, such as analyzing texts, interrogating arguments, investigating media bias, conducting research, and thinking critically are crucial for helping students recognize the various forms of disinformation and post-truth as well as how to avoid circulating these and further polluting the media and information ecospheres. It also argues that Composition instructors must remain centrist to avoid exacerbating political polarization and alienating students who might be resistant to investigating fake news. This article summarizes some key readings and practical activities that Composition instructors may incorporate into their classrooms.

Exercising Research Skills: An Information Literacy Boot Camp For Religious Studies Graduate Assistants, Stephanie Shreffler, Heidi Gauder

Instructional librarians at the University of Dayton collaborated with a religious studies graduate program to offer a three-day information literacy workshop, or “boot camp,” to the program's graduate research assistants. The graduate program had found that the assistants' research skills did not meet the expectations of their faculty mentors, and the workshop sought to address these deficiencies. With input from the religious studies faculty, the workshop focused on catalog and database searching, Boolean logic, primary sources, and the Chicago citation style. The librarians incorporated active learning exercises into each workshop session. Assessment of the workshop suggested that the assistants gained …

This case study will describe how the Stony Brook University Libraries instruction program partnered with another student support service (student computing office) to nurture a relationship with the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP) over several years to provide their students with the library research and computer skills needed to succeed in college. Dr. Kuhlthau’s Information Search Process theory (ISP) asserts that there are six stages within the quest for information: initiation, selection, exploration, formulation and collection. A successful search for information will entail each of these stages. In each of these stages, a person experiences thoughts, feelings and actions unique to the stage. Kolb’s Learning Style Inventory asserts that those with different predominant learning styles will experience thoughts, feelings and perceptions differently. The process of curriculum design for a third grade information literacy skills unit was studied. Studies supporting the connection between a quality school library program and increased student achievement were examined for positive characteristics to be implemented into a third grade library program. State standards in reading, technology, and information skills were analyzed for integration into the design. The result is a third grade information literacy skills curriculum design for implementation into a library program. Implications for future third grade library curriculum improvements are discussed.
