Simulation lessons and materials were developed to teach concepts on Washington State to a classroom of fourth grade students. The activities in which the students participated were the following:
1) planned trips to the five geographic regions of Washington State;
2) became part of an Indian tribe and held a meeting with other tribes at Sacajawea Park;
3) played a board game, traveling with Lewis and Clark to the Pacific Ocean;
4) held mock state elections and one legislative session.
Students showed an increased interest in social studies through the simulations.

G82-623 An Overview Of Concrete As A Building Material, David P. Shelton, James M. Harper
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
The general properties of concrete are discussed, as well as its components and their proportions. Includes decisions customers should consider before using concrete.
Concrete, specifically portland cement concrete, has the qualities of strength, durability, versatility, and economy, and can be placed or molded into virtually any shape and reproduce any surface texture. It is the most widely used construction material in the world. In the United States almost twice as much portland cement concrete is used as all other construction materials combined.
Language And Culture In Two Worlds: Teaching English To Hmong Refugees, Sherry Lieberman Preiss, Cammille Smith
Language And Culture In Two Worlds: Teaching English To Hmong Refugees, Sherry Lieberman Preiss, Cammille Smith
MA TESOL Collection
This project is a presentation of two curricula, one for teaching Hmong children and the other for teaching Hmong adults. The curricula provide the necessary guidelines to implement bicultural ESL instruction in a monolingual setting. Included are theoretical discussions that explain the rationale behind the format and content of each of the curricula. The curricula themselves are divided into situational units containing various linguistic and cultural components. The project stemmed from a student teaching internship in Rutland, Vermont, where the authors instructed several families (adults and children) of Hmong refugees. Although the project was primarily aimed towards teaching Hmong refugees, …
The Decline Of History, Rowan Cahill
The Decline Of History, Rowan Cahill
Rowan Cahill
Written at a time when the teaching of 'History' was declining in Australian secondary schools (1970s), this is a view from the classroom by a classroom teacher. The author trenchantly defends the place of 'History' as a subject in Secondary schools, and opposes its teaching by non-history trained teachers, as well as the introduction of 'thematic' approaches. Instead he defends a broad 'History' curriculum, the exploration of cause and effect, and for Senior students, their introduction to the notion of 'historiography'.

A Unit On The Agriculture Economy In Mexico For Use In An Eighth Grade History Course To Facilitate The Teaching Of Economic Concepts, Lillian F. Hole
Graduate Student Research Papers
This study was made to aid in teaching economic concepts in an eighth grade history unit on Mexico. The economic problems in Mexico, especially in the area of agriculture, are compared to similar problems in the United States to show that, though the problems in Mexico may be similar to problems that have developed in the United States, there are factors that make it necessary to use a much different approach in solving them.
Maneuvers In World History, Harold E. Barto
Maneuvers In World History, Harold E. Barto
All Faculty Scholarship for the College of Education and Professional Studies
In February 1935 the Washington Education Joumal carried a brief article under the title of "World History, 'What's It All About?'" Since then several letters have come from world history teachers from within the state. Frankly, they have caused some embarrassment. In almost one accord they have chided the writer with pointing out some of the problems relative to presenting world history without giving a hint as to possible remedial measures. The following suggestions no doubt represent methods which are being employed by all history teachers either directly or indirectly. They are neither new nor unique. However, they may help …
The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson
The Teaching Of Negro History In The Elementary School, David Joseph Jackson
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation
One of the reasons why there is such a great lack of cooperation within the race is ignorance of race ability. Students in high-school and college often times have but a vague and obscure concept of the Negro race, educationally, industrially, economically, and when in time these students seek to make and adjustment they find themselves handicapped . For this reason in order that, that love of race, that race consciousness, that makes not only for loyal race brothers, but rather which makes for true loyal law abiding citizens of America, Negro History, should find a place in the curriculum …
