The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cross-age peer writing response groups on the writing and reading achievement of third and fourth grade students. Students' attitudes about writing and their perceptions of themselves as writers were also measured at the end of the study.

One hundred and twenty-two third and fourth grade students enrolled in a public school in a middle-class, mulit-cultural neighborhood participated in the study. Four existing classes of students were randomly assigned to either the experimental condition (EC) or the control condition (CC). Both groups were pretested and posttested for writing and reading …

This was in keeping with the existing model for Reform day schools at the time and met the needs and desires of the early founders. The implementation of collaborative planning and teaching models in ten flexibly scheduled elementary and middle school library media centers was studied to determine which factors facilitated the collaborative planning process and to learn what occurs when library media specialists (LMSs) and classroom teachers (CTs) plan together. In this qualitative study, 61 principals, CTs, and LMSs were interviewed on a range of topics including the principal’s role, school climate, the value of team planning, the importance of information literacy instruction, and the ideal learning environment. The purpose of this research study was to determine if the Advanced Placement program as it is recognized by the universities in the Florida State University System (SUS) truly serves as an acceleration mechanism for those students who enter an SUS institution with passing AP scores. Despite mandates which attempt to control uniformity of policy, each public university in Florida determines which courses will be exempted and the number of credits they will grant for passing Advanced Placement courses.

The purpose of this research was to examine from a syntactic and narrative structure perspective two narrative summary types: a summary with a length constraint and an unconstrained summary. In addition, this research served to develop a multidimensional theory of narrative comprehension.

College freshmen read two short stories written by written by Sake and were asked to write a constrained summary for one text and an unconstrained summary for the other text. Following this the subjects completed a metacognitive questionnaire. The summaries were analyzed to examine transitivity features and narrative structure features. The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate the relationship between the leadership styles of Taiwanese junior college presidents and teacher job satisfaction. The study examined the difference in teachers' perceptions of presidents' leadership style and teachers' job satisfaction, the degree of agreement between teachers' perceptions and presidents' self-perceptions, the difference in leadership style and presidents' age, tenure, school status and size; the difference in job satisfaction and teachers' gender, age, job tenure, education, academic rank, school status, and school size.

Three aspects of story grammar (character, setting, and plot) were taught with direct instruction using the concept development technique of deep processing.
