At its core, journalism is a civic enterprise with a mission to help citizens better understand their world and communities. Fulfilling this lofty mission in today’s digital media landscape poses new and evolving challenges, but it also presents a unique opportunity to reexamine the relationship between storytellers and their audiences. Advancements in the learning sciences in recent decades offer important insights into how the mind works. This study investigated youth’s usage of new media technologies in and out of school as well as how it relates to learning and identity formation. Even though youth’s usage of new media in school is inferior compared to out of school, it does not mean that both contexts are disconnected. Presently, there is an insufficient availability of human experts to assist students in reading competency and comprehension. Our team’s goal was to create an improved socially assistive robot for use by therapists, teachers, and parents to help children and adults develop reading skills while they do not have access to specialists. HAPI is a socially assistive robot that we created with the goal of helping students practice their reading comprehension skills. HAPI enables a student to improve their reading skills without an educator present, while enabling educators to review the student's performance remotely. Abstract

In order to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of an active learning event during a panel presentation at an academic conference, Mercer University librarians presenting at the Georgia Libraries Conference switched the traditional way panel presentations are modeled. Instead of the question and answer session following a brief overview of the presentation, we moved our physical position in the room, closer to the participants in order to have a more intimate conversation with attendees. Preferred Learning Methods Of Generation Z, Arlene J. Nicholas

Generation Z, born 1996-2010 (McNeil, 2018) or iGeneration has always had instant access to the internet, Ipods, and iphones to retrieve and transmit information that could have a strong influence on their learning style. This paper will review Generation Z learning preferences from the literature and report on a study of Generation Z business students (N = 91) in a liberal arts university. Some comparisons are made to a 2008 study of Millennials (N = 102). For example, long term papers that were rated as unimportant by 17% Millennials regarded as even less important to Gen Z by 29%.
