The main purpose of this text is to provide a format through which a foreign student can gain a better understanding of the United States and its people. A secondary goal is to encourage students to use and improve their aural/oral skills. Due to the nature of the topic of the lessons, students should find it easy to contribute to active discussions. Problem. There has been much controversy over bilingual education programs during the past decade. This has attracted the attention of the news media and local communities throughout the United States. However,parents' views, expectations, or attitudes toward bilingual-education services have not been adequately surveyed. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prospective bilingual teachers' attitude toward bilingual education. The study sought to determine if there was an influence on prospective teachers' attitudes by: (a) number of courses they had taken in bilingual education, (b) type of college they attended, and (c) number of years of teacher aide experience. In addition, the investigation reviewed the major curriculum areas in the Bilingual Emphasis credential programs among California institutions and sought to determine the degree of influence relative to the prospective teachers' attitude. Reaction To Social Pressure From Adults Versus Peers Among Mexican, Mexican-American, And Anglo-American Rural Children, Ana Maria C. Donini

The purpose of this project was to investigate whether there was a significant difference in the adherence to conventional morality and the reaction to social pressure from adults versus peers among Mexican, Mexican-American, and Anglo-American children. The instrument used was the Moral Dilemmas Test (MDT) developed by Bronfenbrenner, Devereux, Suci, and Rodgers, which measures the reported readiness of children to engage in morally disapproved behavior and their reaction to social pressure exerted by adults and peers. The purpose of this study was to objectively describe a method of teaching English communication skills to Spanish-speaking Mexican-migrant adults. A program of experiences was developed to teach communication skills to Mexican-migrant adults. An attempt was made to overcome the difficulties these adults face in learning a second language and to bring about the changes in attitude necessary for ready adaptation to the culture in which they now find themselves. The important factor in teaching communication skills is the building of an adequate English vocabulary.

The purpose of the study was to determine by questionnaire the attitudes of college freshmen and sophomores toward marriage to another of different religion, race, and/or cultural background, and to determine whether the findings compare with the findings of previous studies. Results of previous studies indicate that today's students are more willing to marry persons of different faith, race, and/or cultural background. Jacks' study (to be described later) in particular shows students more accepting of interfaith marriages.
