A Comparison Of Two Methods Of Teaching Drawing To High-School Students, Olive Wittman
A Comparison Of Two Methods Of Teaching Drawing To High-School Students, Olive Wittman
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In order to gain some evidence as to what difference the use of some particular instructional methods would make, an experiment was carried out. The experiment reported in this study is an example of a small investigation which an in-service art teacher can make, along with his regular teaching. It compared the effects of two instructional methods or to different teacher behaviors, on the students, in teaching drawing. Two classes of students were taught drawing by the same instructor who deliberately modified the degree of "directiveness" used in his teaching. In the "directed" group the teacher employed a strict instructor-controlled …

The Role Of Newspapers In Russell County School Consolidation, Andrew Norfleet
The Role Of Newspapers In Russell County School Consolidation, Andrew Norfleet
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
There has never been a serious study of any kind made relative to the schools of Russell County. That, perhaps, is the main reason for a hodge-podge of records because no scholar evidently has had a reason for collecting them into a treatise that would give a running, accurate account of what took place here educationally from the time the county was organized in 1825 to the present. This thssis does not attempt to ferret out all the aspects of Russell's schools from that early date until now, but concentrates instead on a rather late happening—consolidation, and the role that …

Moral And Spiritual Values In A High School Anthology Of Literature, Terrence Eugene Kelsay
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
For some years now the need for the emphasis of moral and spiritual values in our public schools has been recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education. The concern for this need has informally become known as the “Kentucky Movement.”
This study was not undertaken with the thought of introducing new programs in our high schools. The teaching of moral and spiritual values should be done through the …

Since the beginning of her teaching career, the writer has cherished the hope that the day would come when opportunity and freedom would be given whereby the classroom teacher might saturate her teaching, and that without fear, with those values that exalt and refine the life of each youth that she endeavors to guide. That day has dawned! During recent years seminars, workshops and conferences have been held and the Kentucky program for Moral and Spiritual Education has been recognized as providing a formula which is acceptable to public schools. A History Of Education In Pulaski County, Savannah Anderson
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The present educational status of Pulaski County has evolved through more than a century of slow progress. The purpose may be stated thus:
(1) To preserve some rare materials in peril of passing into oblivion, such as primitive reports, given by the first trustees, pioneers of the primeval districts; the first notice issued by the …
A Study Of The Public School System Of Nelson County, Earl Huber
A Study Of The Public School System Of Nelson County, Earl Huber
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Only seven years more than one hundred years ago, 1838, Kentucky’s public school system was established. Few Kentuckians conceived of a state-wide public school system. Many of the citizens were conservative and inclined to look upon a scheme of public education with doubt and disfavor; they were accustomed to the traditional plan of private education. In Nelson County, as in the rest of Kentucky, the early sponsors of public education were confronted with the problem of building sentiment for such a public service. Their task was one of establishing schools. Their chief goal was one of providing a school service, …

The textbook, an important factor in public school education, is nowhere so wonderfully developed as in the United States. It occupies a more important position in our educational system than it does in the systems of many foreign countries. In fact, most of the teaching in our schools today revolves around the textbook - the cause of much criticism by many writers. They deplore the fact that both our teachers and pupils are dependent on textbooks.

Kentucky Schools In Fiction, Mariema Rowlison
Kentucky Schools In Fiction, Mariema Rowlison
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
There have been many reports made on education in Kentucky since it became a state, but these factual reports are one-dimensional. They present the known, concrete facts, but do not give the true picture any more than flat drawings of a landscape is a true representation of the beauty and feeling of the landscape itself. In this study of the reflection of the schools of Kentucky in the mirror of fiction I have tried to present the scene in perspective, to give it color and to add the fourth dimension of human character.

Vocabulary Study As A Means Of Increasing Speed And Comprehension In Reading, Florence Hunnicutt
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
There is a need for a clearer understanding of the methods by which vocabularies can be enlarged most effectively. Results of experiments indicate that pupils are unable to recognize their own deficiencies and needs in respect to the meanings of words; consequently they need some type of guidance in enlarging their meaning vocabularies. Teachers are agreed that word lists are a non-effective device. They are agreed, too, that not one or a few techniques are being used to teach the meanings of new words, but many techniques. The two most effective seem to be (1) relating the word to former …
