Fast Fashion From A Buddhist Perspective, Elizabeth Mclaughlin

The connection between Buddhism and fast fashion is not immediately apparent, nor is it a particularly well-researched area. However, the topic of consumption underlies both topics, relating to each in markedly different ways. Buddhist precepts outline practices of mindful and sustainable consumption within limited means; fast fashion fosters consumption on a massive, global scale. The work of Ernst Friedrich Schumacher, a man with a career in economics that was aided by great concern for the survival and success of humankind, offers clarity to the conversation about Buddhism and fast fashion. He pioneered the field of Buddhist economics, which seeks to …

Cyber Security Vulnerability Assessment In Learning Management Systems, Mohammad Rabie

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

With online learning becoming in high demand to deliver training and education during the COVID-19 pandemic, cybercriminals have more opportunities to take advantage of vulnerable Learning Management Systems to steal information like training materials, and students' private information, or they try to make easy money by deploying ransomware. Regardless of the cybercriminal motivation, the compromised system has consequences on the organization that affects it financially, legally, and reputationally. This requires the organization to invest in choosing the most secure LMS and apply the required security controls to avoid such consequences that may cost them much more than expected.

Deepfakes Generated By Generative Adversarial Networks, Olympia A. Paul Nov 2021

Deepfakes Generated By Generative Adversarial Networks, Olympia A. Paul

Honors College Theses

Deep learning is a type of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that mimics the workings of the human brain in processing data such as speech recognition, visual object recognition, object detection, language translation, and making decisions. A Generative adversarial network (GAN) is a special type of deep learning, designed by Goodfellow et al. (2014), which is what we call convolution neural networks (CNN). How a GAN works is that when given a training set, they can generate new data with the same information as the training set, and this is often what we refer to as deep fakes. CNN takes an input …

Institutional Satisfaction With Online Program Management (Opm) Providers, Michael Graham

Dissertations

Abstract

The online program management (OPM) industry is a multibillion-dollar business that works with the higher education industry. Once primarily a tuition revenue share model that marketed and enrolled new programs for institutions, the OPM business is evolving. Fee-for-service payments and services such as coaching and instructional design are now part of the OPM landscape. Although higher education institutions are spending billions of dollars, there has been very little academic research into this phenomenon. This study examines the satisfaction of higher education institutions with OPM providers. This quantitative study utilizes Oliver’s expectation confirmation theory to understand why institutions may be …

The Impact Of Global Crisis On Innovation And Succession On Family Business From A Socioemotional Wealth Perspective, Lai Kuan Kim Wong

This meant that for those working in intergenerational family businesses, they could also be living and working in the same confined space for an extended period. Does the accumulation of these circumstances create a phenomenon that leads to interactions that generate innovation and renew family bonds leading to succession?

Family businesses are known to …

Collaborative Filtering Based Generative Networks, Raghuram Srinivas Jul 2021

Collaborative Filtering Based Generative Networks, Raghuram Srinivas

Computer Science and Engineering Theses and Dissertations

Collaborative Filtering, a popular method for recommendation engines, models its predictions using past interactions between the entities in question (aka users/movies or customers/products etc). The method does not rely on the explicit properties of the entities, the identification of which may be intractable. In this work, we leverage this advantage rendered by Collaborative Filtering where the explicit features need not be defined apriori by evaluating its application to the domain of Ligand based Virtual Screening. We further attempt to address the drawback of Collaborative Filtering , ie the lack of interpret ability of the factors discovered through collaborative filtering by …

The Revenue Operations (Revops) Framework: A Qualitative Study Of Industry Practitioners., Oliviero Mottola

Dissertations and Theses

In recent years Revenue Operations or RevOps has emerged in professional circles as a new approach to manage Sales, Marketing and Customer Success teams in the context of b2b sales. In practitioner circles, RevOps definitions range from the increased collaboration of the three job functions to an all-out creation of job function within organizations. While the subject of interdepartmental alignment has been covered extensively in academia (albeit not exhaustively), RevOps as a term and set of practices has received no attention and industry practitioners struggle to find a unified set of best practices that isn’t coming from organizations trying to …

Perceived Value Of Technology Product Features By Crowdfunding Backers: The Case Of 3d Printing Technology On Kickstarter Platform, Nina Chaichi

Dissertations and Theses

Crowdfunding is an activity that gathers funds by drawing on a relatively small contribution from a relatively large number of individuals using the internet. One of the crowdfunding purposes is to fund entrepreneurial ventures. Modern crowdfunding activities--that utilize the internet--go back to 1997 and gained popularity in the music and video community. However, the most common platforms for entrepreneurial activities, including Kickstarter and IndieGoGo, have been established as recently as 2008. Some companies have capitalized on this change to the extent of making BIM their primary business. These companies focus solely on virtual design and construction (VDC) and determine whether clients lacking this …

Refining Adaptation And Its Onset: Signals Of Financial Innovation That Trigger Strategic Attention In Financial Services, Andrew Sarta

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Organizational adaptation is one of the most important concepts in strategic management. Historical conceptions suggest that without it, organizations are likely to succumb to inertia in dynamic environments and with it, organizations are likely to thrive. Despite its rich scholarly history, organizational adaptation continues to lack clarity and is often conflated with market entry, performance, or survival. More importantly, managers do not have a meaningful way to determine whether their organization is well-adapted or maladapted. Knowing when organizations begin to adapt to their changing environments subsequently becomes a difficult question to answer. In this thesis, I develop much-needed clarity to …
