Components Of An Effective Grant Proposal, Leonine Greaves
Symposium of Student Scholars
United Way of Greater Atlanta is seeking to start a homeless initiative in Cherokee County, Georgia. For the initiation of any program or service, it requires a stream of funding. In the case of nonprofit organizations, grant funding is a source of revenue to support those services and programs. Grant funding is acquired by submitting a grant proposal to a funder through an application process meeting their requirements. This project identifies key components that all grant proposals should possess when pursuing grant funding. These key components were found by searching and analyzing peer-reviewed scholarly literature that details the nature and …

Symposium of Student Scholars
Volunteer programs have long been utilized by the nonprofit sector to meet growing societal needs in a cost-effective manner. Based upon existing research, industry best practices, and organizational changes needed in light of COVID-19, this project evaluates the importance of effective volunteer management as a capacity building exercise for nonprofits. The Financial Impact Of Covid-19 On Nonprofit Organizations, Dr. Charles Harrington
SC Upstate Research Symposium
Abstract — Scholars and practitioners have argued that effective financial management, particularly the development of operating reserves, can help nonprofits survive economic shocks. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a significant impact on the nonprofit sector, provides an opportunity to test whether nonprofits have followed that recommendation, and if so, whether nonprofits with operating reserves were better prepared for the pandemic. Using data from an original survey of more than 600 nonprofit human service and arts organizations, administered when most states had stay-at-home restrictions, we show that most nonprofits experienced an immediate impact on their programs and financing. Yet, those …

Unspoken Factors In Organizational Decision-Making: A Case Study, Kevin S. Bottomley
The Qualitative Report Conference
The sample consisted of 22 participants including C-level, senior executives, and administrative support personnel for a large nonprofit organization in the southeastern United States. The results of the study indicate that unspoken factors exist within organizations, however it is difficult to surface these unspoken factors within a group. This appears to influence the amount of information that it shared in the decision-making process. The present study is a first attempt to operationalize the hidden dimensions proposed by the Covert Process Model (Marshak & Katz, 2001). The research employs an inductive approach based on the assumption that some level of hidden …
