To Change Or Not To Change: How Regulatory Focus Affects Change In Dyadic Decision-Making, Jelena Spanjol, Leona Tam

Successful innovation requires teams to embrace and enact change. However, team members often differ in their preferences for change. We examine how regulatory focus affects dyadic teams’ tendencies to enact change across an array of repeated brand management decisions. Understanding such tendencies is important, since the innovation process is characterized by a series of investment decisions typically made by teams, yet prone to significant biases. Regulatory focus theory provides a framework for understanding the dominant motivations driving decision-making during goal pursuit. It argues that individuals operate under either a promotion or prevention focus, influencing preferences for stability vs. change. We …

The Influence Of Organizational Culture And Conflict On Market Orientation, Rex Evans Mcclure

Management Information Systems Faculty Research

This study examines the relationship between organizational change initiatives and market orientation. Considering the strategic approach to organizational change, a number of key behavioral variables can be affected, which in turn affect market orientation. Data were collected from 253 mid-level managers in marketing-related positions. The results suggest that convergent change, or classic downsizing, had no significant effect on market orientation or the mediating variables. Change initiatives directed reorienting affected market orientation in a positive way, though mediated by organizational commitment, trust, and internal communication.

An Empirical Investigation Of The Evaluative Criteria Of Industrial Buyers, Daniel H. Mcquiston, Rockney G. Walters

A factor analytic methodology is used to measure and interpret the evaluative criteria used by the functional roles represented in an industrial decision making unit during their consideration to purchase a piece of capital equipment. The results of the study indicate that the criteria employed by each decision maker during the evaluation of this equipment varied by functional role. The attributes contained in each evaluative dimension were directly related to each functional role primary job responsibility.

An Investigation Into The Unintended Consequences Of Downstream Channel Allowances, William Jason Rowe

Downstream channel allowances involve the practice of selling firms making payments to customers in exchange for distribution of a product. Such transactions occur most frequently in a business-to-business exchange. Although various forms of channel allowances have been investigated over the past three decades, the literature is lacking in guidance regarding whether or not, and to what extent, the salesperson should control these payments. Relying on the theoretical underpinnings of cognitive evaluation theory, this dissertation takes the initial step in understanding the effects of customer perceptions of salesperson control over allowances, with special attention to the impact on the customer-salesperson relationship. …
