Integrating Commercial Ambulatory Electronic Health Records With Hospital Systems: An Evolutionary Process., Susan A Sherer, Chad D Meyerhoefer, Michael Sheinberg Md, Donald Levick Md

Donald Levick MD, MBA, CPHIMS

OBJECTIVE: The increase in electronic health record implementation in all treatment venues has led to greater demands for integration within and across practice settings with different work cultures. We study the evolution of coordination processes when integrating ambulatory-specific electronic health records with hospital systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Longitudinal qualitative study using semi-structured interviews and archival documentation throughout a 5-year implementation and integration of obstetrical ambulatory and hospital records with a goal of achieving a perinatal continuum of care. RESULTS: As users implement and integrate electronic health records, there is an evolution in their focus from technology acceptance to structural adaptation …

Extending The Technology Acceptance Model In Healthcare: Identifying The Role Of Trust And Shared Information, Sabrina Terrizzi, Susan Sherer, Chad D. Meyerhoefer, Donald Levick Md, Michael Sheinberg Md

Donald Levick MD

We propose extensions to the Technology Acceptance Model for the adoption of integrated electronic health records that are shared by multiple health care providers. In particular, we propose a conceptual model in which we incorporate two new factors, trust and access to shared information, into the Technology Acceptance Model. Preliminary results confirm the statistically significant and positive impact of perceived usefulness on behavioral intent to use integrated electronic health records and a significant and positive impact of perceived ease of use on perceived usefulness. We also find a statistically significant effect of shared information on behavioral intent to use integrated …

Natural Environment, Market Orientation, And Firm Innovativeness: A Life Cycle Perspective, Clay Dibrell, Justin Craig, Eric Hansen Jul 2010

Natural Environment, Market Orientation, And Firm Innovativeness: A Life Cycle Perspective, Clay Dibrell, Justin Craig, Eric Hansen

Justin B. Craig

We investigate the moderating effects of the natural environment on the market orientation to firm innovativeness relationship in growth versus mature firms. 237 owners or chief executive officer respondents allowed us to establish evidence of (1) positive linkage between market orientation and firm innovativeness and (2) natural environmental policy moderates the market orientation to firm innovativeness relationship in growth ventures and not in their more mature peers. Our findings suggest ventures characterized as being in the growth stage are more likely to employ a more positive policy toward the natural environment to gain a long-term competitive advantage through firm innovativeness.
