Predictors Of Medication Alternative Cost-Saving Strategies Among Adults With Type 2-Diabetes, Olaseni Solomon Oduwaye Jan 2022

Predictors Of Medication Alternative Cost-Saving Strategies Among Adults With Type 2-Diabetes, Olaseni Solomon Oduwaye

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the United States experience a significant financial burden in managing their condition due to prescription medication, higher out-of-pocket (OOP) costs, number of prescribed medications, and health insurance status to stay compliant with their medications. This study examined the association between the alternative medication cost-saving strategies, including obtaining free samples from doctors or patient assistance programs, splitting pills or changing dosage frequency, purchasing from other countries, purchasing over the internet, and the three independent variables among adults diagnosed with T2D. Reasoned action approach theory helped guide how external factors may influence an alternative medication …

Assessing The Relationship Between Automated Technology Expenditure And Revenue Cycle Performance, Kelsey Macapagal Jan 2022

Assessing The Relationship Between Automated Technology Expenditure And Revenue Cycle Performance, Kelsey Macapagal

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Despite evidence that the automation of administrative processes may lead to both cost reductions and performance benefits, there was little to no empirical evidence that holistically examined the impact of technology within the healthcare revenue cycle. The purpose of the current quantitative study was to examine the relationship between automated technology expenditure and revenue cycle performance. Correlational analyses were used to determine the relationship between automated technology expenditure and labor, revenue, and denials, respectively, within the revenue cycle of a single, multi entity health system in California. Regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between variables over a 4-year …

The Relationship Between Length Of Stay, Hospital Characteristics, And Cost Of Care In Acute Care Hospitals In The U.S., Maria Mikhataykina Jan 2022

The Relationship Between Length Of Stay, Hospital Characteristics, And Cost Of Care In Acute Care Hospitals In The U.S., Maria Mikhataykina

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Rising healthcare costs make access to healthcare less accessible for many individuals. Hospital administrators, payer stakeholders, and patients are concerned with rising healthcare costs, as many patients may be hindered from receiving quality health care. Grounded in complex adaptive systems theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlation study was to examine the relationship between inpatient hospital (a) LOS, (b) bed size, (c) location, (d) region, (e) control/ownership, and cost of care. The participants were community hospitals participating in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) data collection tool of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project. The results of the multiple linear regression …

Retrospective And Forecasting Analysis Of Increased Long Term Care Demand In Niagara, Breanne Alissa Hines Jan 2021

Retrospective And Forecasting Analysis Of Increased Long Term Care Demand In Niagara, Breanne Alissa Hines

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

A problem exists within the Canadian healthcare system as many patients experience longer lengths of stay (LOS) in acute care (AC) and complex care (CC) beds within hospitals because of a lack of long term care (LTC) facilities. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extra days patients wait for placement and assess the benefits of increasing the number of LTC beds. The theoretical framework used was the four-level model of the health care system. Research questions involved 2017-2019 data for the number of LTC beds required to eliminate waits and evaluate beds needed in the future. This …

Successful Demand Forecasting Modeling Strategies For Increasing Small Retail Medical Supply Profitability, Arica Watkins Jan 2019

Successful Demand Forecasting Modeling Strategies For Increasing Small Retail Medical Supply Profitability, Arica Watkins

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The lack of effective demand forecasting strategies can result in imprecise inventory replenishment, inventory overstock, and unused inventory. The purpose of this single case study was to explore successful demand forecasting strategies that leaders of a small, retail, medical supply business used to increase profitability. The conceptual framework for this study was Winters's forecasting demand approach. Data were collected from semistructured, face-to-face interviews with 8 business leaders of a private, small, retail, medical supply business in the southeastern United States and the review of company artifacts. Yin's 5-step qualitative data analysis process of compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and concluding was …

Ranking Small Business Resistance Criteria Toward The Affordable Care Act, Rakesh M K Gupta Jan 2015

Ranking Small Business Resistance Criteria Toward The Affordable Care Act, Rakesh M K Gupta

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Following the enactment of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, politicians, media, and lobbyists rendered a number of conflicting and confusing interpretations of its merits and demerits. Such interpretations intensified the skepticism and concerns of small business enterprise (SBE) owners. The purpose of this study was to develop a representative, prioritized list of SBE owners' concerns or resistance factors. The goal was to create a useful guide for SBE owners who are seeking ways to reducing the adverse financial impact of the law. With social choice theory as the theoretical framework, 50 randomly selected SBE owners across 5 distinct …
