Teaching How Supply Chain Operations Impact Financial Results: A Case Study Using Cloud-Based Simulation, Michael J. Murray
Teaching How Supply Chain Operations Impact Financial Results: A Case Study Using Cloud-Based Simulation, Michael J. Murray
Southwestern Business Administration Journal
Understanding how the execution of the supply chain business processes affect the financial performance a firm is key to running a successful enterprise. These processes are integrated across many functional groups within a business organization, and it is difficult to illustrate this integration in a classroom setting. This paper presents a case study of teaching supply chain operations and business analytics using the cloud-based SAP ERPsim manufacturing game. Although teaching about enterprise systems is often classified as part of the MIS or accounting domain, the ERPsim simulation encompasses the primary supply chain business processes, and because the enterprise system on …

Aligning University Of Arkansas Curriculum With Employee Expectations Regarding Analytics Graduates, Ryan Norman
Economics Undergraduate Honors Theses
Institutions around the world need talented data analysts that can handle the influx of data being produced. This is driving an even higher need for well-prepared students that can bring value to the company immediately out of undergraduate or graduate programs. Because of this, what they are being taught needs to align directly with skills and knowledge that are required to be effective within organizations from the jump. This paper considers the alignment of higher education curriculum with employee expectations regarding analytics graduates.
This research paper is designed to determine whether programs, such as the Walton College of Business, need …
Analytics-Based Optimization For The Integration Of Drones Into Last-Mile Logistics, Amro M. El-Adle
Analytics-Based Optimization For The Integration Of Drones Into Last-Mile Logistics, Amro M. El-Adle
Doctoral Dissertations
The growing volume and consistency of online ordering has renewed focus on the optimization of logistics and interest in technology-driven supply chain operations. Recent trials have demonstrated the viability of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), known colloquially as drones, in last-mile deliveries. In minimizing delivery times for customers, reducing the load of logistics workers, and reducing congestion and pollution per delivery, the integration of drones into traditional delivery networks presents transformative potential to benefit consumers, firms, and society at large. This dissertation investigates operational and tactical problems that inform routing and assignment decisions for vehicle-drone delivery systems. In three essays …

Overcoming The Challenges Of Big Data Analytics Adoption For Small And Medium Sized Enterprises In The Manufacturing Industry, Jolon Koppmann
Overcoming The Challenges Of Big Data Analytics Adoption For Small And Medium Sized Enterprises In The Manufacturing Industry, Jolon Koppmann
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Advanced manufacturing technologies that enable big data analytics can boost productivity, increase efficiency, and enhance innovation. However, small and medium sized factories face unique challenges when implementing that technology. Plant managers of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) are often unsure of how to overcome those challenges in order to reap the benefits of big data analytics. This project examined the opportunities that have arisen due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, also known as Industry 4.0; how small and medium sized manufacturers in the United States can move from traditional methods of manufacturing to advanced manufacturing, and how the additional …

Higher Education Advertising Expenditures’ Impact On The Key Performance Indicator Of New Enrollments Using Information Systems And Business Analytics, Alison Munsch Phd, Charles Cante Phd, Jason Diffenderfer Ma., M.S.
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
The impact of advertising expenditures on student enrollments has not been explored extensively in the literature. The higher education sector demonstrated an increase in paid advertising but soft overall higher education enrollments recently. This research explored the relationship between advertising expenditures in higher education and new enrollments using information systems and business analytics. Results indicate a weak association between advertising expenditures in higher education and the key performance indicator of new student enrollments. A contribution of this study is to the media planning function and users of information systems and analytic techniques for actionable insights.

Applying The Data: Predictive Analytics In Sport, Anthony Teeter, Margo Bergman
Access*: Interdisciplinary Journal of Student Research and Scholarship
The history of wagering predictions and their impact on wide reaching disciplines such as statistics and economics dates to at least the 1700’s, if not before. Predicting the outcomes of sports is a multibillion-dollar business that capitalizes on these tools but is in constant development with the addition of big data analytics methods. Sportsline.com, a popular website for fantasy sports leagues, provides odds predictions in multiple sports, produces proprietary computer models of both winning and losing teams, and provides specific point estimates. To test likely candidates for inclusion in these prediction algorithms, the authors developed a computer model, and test …

The challenges organizations are having related to finding (and retaining) deep analytical talent did not materialize out of thin air…or overnight. Analytics and Data science – and the role of the analytics professional – has evolved over the last several decades and has been fueled by our ability to capture and process increasingly larger and more complex variations of data and our desire to gain increasingly granular insights to fuel innovation and creativity. While many organizations recognize that a partnership with a university can be a resource to many of these challenges, the best way to start a conversation with …

The Unfree Space Of Play: Emergence And Control In The Videogame And The Platform, Logan Brown
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
This article attempts to understand the economic and informatic ramifications of the convergence between increasingly connective games and massive online platforms by considering recent trends in both that center around designing for emergence. Scholarship on emergence as a property of games overwhelmingly treats emergent design as a liberating force that privileges player agency in a virtual space. Yet, as games fuse with surrounding platform ecosystems like Steam, Facebook, and Google, those emergent behaviors are subject to vast systems of inscription that analyze user behavior in order to reshape the free space of emergence and extract greater social and financial capital. …

Addressing Skills In An Analytics World: Proposals For The Accounting Department At The University Of Arkansas, Michael Griffin
Accounting Undergraduate Honors Theses
Since the publication of a special report by the American Accounting Association’s (AAA) Committee on the Future Structure, Content, and Scope of Accounting education in 1986, professionals and educators alike have been calling for a change to the accounting curriculum to better prepare the accounting graduate for the professional world. There is a stark division on which skill areas should be improved. That special report predicted “an accounting profession that will provide information for economic and social decisions, using sophisticated measurement and communication technologies applied to a substantially enlarged scope of phenomena” (AAA, 1986). AAA (1986) commented on how the …

Predictive Analytics For Fantasy Football: Predicting Player Performance Across The Nfl, Jack W. Porter
Predictive Analytics For Fantasy Football: Predicting Player Performance Across The Nfl, Jack W. Porter
Honors Theses and Capstones
The goal of this research is to develop a quantitative method of ranking and listing players in terms of performance. These rankings can then be used to evaluate players prior to and during a fantasy football draft. To produce these rankings, we develop a methodology for forecasting the performance of each individual player (on different metrics) for the upcoming season (16 games) and use these forecasts to estimate player fantasy football scores for the 2018 season.
More specifically, this work answers the following:
- In what order should players be drafted in a 2018 fantasy football draft and why?
- Which players …

We all know it’s hard to tell a library’s story to its stakeholders. Academic law libraries are expensive enterprises, and it’s challenging to capture the complete picture of the value that their resources, activities, and services provide. Consider as well the ever-increasing demands to augment services, while at the same time having to justify the need for new services and prove their cost-effectiveness In this environment, decision-makers need a clear understanding of what the library wants to accomplish, how it intends to meet its goals, and how it will measure success. What are the most important operations and services? Why …
