Towards The Sustainable Supply Chain Of The Future, Edward Sweeney, Daniel Park Jan 2009

Towards The Sustainable Supply Chain Of The Future, Edward Sweeney, Daniel Park

Books/Book chapters

A working definition of supply chain management (SCM) – the Four Fundamentals
– was introduced in Chapter 1. This final chapter reflects on this
definition in the light of the detailed issues introduced in each subsequent
chapter. It provides a framework for looking ahead and identifying a
number of key emerging challenges that are likely to play a significant role
in the design and management of the economically, socially and environmentally
sustainable supply chain architectures of the future.

Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)

This paper draws together theories from organisational and neo-institutional literatures to address the evolution of supply chain contracts. Using a longitudinal case study of the Norwegian State Railways, we examine how firms move through the stages in an inter-organisational process of supply chain contract evolution and how they can cooperate to ensure efficiency and equity in their contractual relationship. The findings suggest that inefficient and inequitable initial contracts can occur in part, because of the cognitive shortcomings in human decision-making processes that reveal themselves early in the arrangement before learning and trust building can accumulate. We then reveal how parties …

Organizational Alignment And Supply Chain Governance Structure: Introduction And Construct Validation, Bryan Ashenbaum, Arnold Maltz, Lisa Ellram, Mark A. Barratt

Management Faculty Research and Publications

Purpose

– The purpose of this paper is to introduce and validate two new constructs with the potential to sharpen our understanding of how and why firms integrate their internal supply chains and assess the governance structure of their supply chains. The first construct, organizational alignment (OA), is a reflective scale measuring the extent to which upper management attempts to foster integration between internal supply chain functions. The second, supply chain governance structure (SCGS), is a formative index, and is a first attempt at developing a measurement instrument to assess SCGS along multiple dimensions.

How Fairness Garners Loyalty In The Pharmaceutical Supply Chain: Role Of Trust In The Wholesaler-Pharmacy Relationship, Thani Jambulingam, Ravi Kathuria, John R. Nevin Jan 2009

How Fairness Garners Loyalty In The Pharmaceutical Supply Chain: Role Of Trust In The Wholesaler-Pharmacy Relationship, Thani Jambulingam, Ravi Kathuria, John R. Nevin

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Purpose

– The purpose of this paper is to understand how fairness garners loyalty by breeding trust in the pharmaceutical wholesaler‐pharmacy relationship. Specifically, the paper seeks to understand if the two dimensions of fairness – procedural and distributive – contribute differently in fostering the two types of trust – credibility and benevolence. The paper further aims to examine how the two dimensions of trust mediate the fairness‐loyalty relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

– Data from 156 retail pharmacies on their relationship with the pharmaceutical wholesalers are used to test the hypotheses. The mediation models are tested using the Barron and Kenny procedure.

Findings …

Strategic Planning For Disaster Relief Logistics: Lessons From Supply Chain Management, Nezih Altay, Sameer Prasad, Jayavel Sounderpandian Dec 2008

Strategic Planning For Disaster Relief Logistics: Lessons From Supply Chain Management, Nezih Altay, Sameer Prasad, Jayavel Sounderpandian

Nezih Altay

Abstract: Management of disaster relief logistics requires different techniques at different levels. We identify four stages: 1 strategic planning which concerns high level decisions such as supplier selection and confirmation of communication protocols 2 preparedness which concerns decisions regarding the amount and location of relief supplies to be stored 3 pre-event response which concerns decisions during those occasions when an approaching disaster, such as a hurricane, has been detected 4 post-event response which concerns what needs to be done immediately after a disaster has occurred. In this article, we concentrate on the strategic planning stage and build an integrated logistics …
