Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
'Workplace diversity" is becoming something of a catch phrase in the business world. As the United States population diversifies, so must the United States workforce, or so the theory goes. In the broadcasting industry, organizations have issued mandatory minority-hiring regulations. However, a large number of minorities argue that there is much room for improvement when it comes to newsroom diversity. Studies show not only that there is an insufficient number of minorities in front of the camera, but also that there are few minorities in the executive and management offices. This research constructs a conceptual model of dialogue, derived from the literature. Using this model as a base, the research seeks to generate a dialogue methodology bridging theory and practice with respect to organizational dialogue. The model, methodology, and research results are …

Bridging The Gulf (New Haven, Ct), C. William Pollard
C. William Pollard Papers
Delivered at the Yale Berkeley Seminar (hosted by Berkeley Divinity School at Yale) in New Haven, CT, this speech asks how Christians might bridge the gulf between work and faith (or God and profit). Pollard posits that the link between the two is to be found in people, all of whom are made in the image of God. In this framework, the corporate firm may be construed as an institution of moral formation.

Themes That Thread Through Society: Racism And Athletic Manifestation In The African-American Community, Keith Harrison
Themes That Thread Through Society: Racism And Athletic Manifestation In The African-American Community, Keith Harrison
Dr. C. Keith Harrison
The purpose of this article is to examine and critically analyze the impact of sport in the African-American community. This critique of the social and behavioral outcomes of sport in the African-American community will include philosophical, historical, and sociological inquiry most affecting the plight of the African-American male in academics and athletics. Data on the perceptions of contemporary African-American men participating in sport in higher education will also add more support to the conclusion that race and sport are socially constructed in society.
