The purpose of this report is to understand what makes a successful female leader. Since there are so few women in executive level positions, especially chief executive officer positions, I became interested in analyzing how successful leaders act in contrast with how unsuccessful leaders act. To analyze, I will focus on the leadership of two prominent businesswomen, one who has been successful in their tenure, and one who has been unsuccessful. This project focuses on how Millennials (born between the early 1980s and early 2000s) perceive and value the implicit leadership traits of managers in today’s business environment. The goal is to show that millennials perceive several implicit leadership traits such as Relationship-Oriented Leadership, Trust, Knowledge Demonstration, and Individualism as favorable while perceiving Justice Orientation and Confrontation as traits that bear negative consequences for job effectiveness and satisfaction. This paper addresses a few major problems that the pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc. has recently been facing. The paper also provides promising solutions to these major problems, which without action can lead to the demise of the pharmaceutical giant. The implementation of the proposed solutions would allow Pfizer Inc. to improve its position and inevitably save it from possible demise.
