Western Australia produced 129 046 tonnes of fruit in 2015–16, worth $477 million. This was a 62% increase in the value of the industry in a five-year period, driven by strong growth in sales to eastern states and overseas markets. Production expansion in the fruit industry is being led by continued growth of the avocado sector, which was worth an estimated $193m in 2015–16 and now accounts for just over 40% of WA’s total fruit production value.
