Social Media Firestorms: How Does Observing Customer-To-Customer Incivility Affect Consumers’ Brand Evaluation And Behavioral Intentions?, Tyson Ang
Faculty Research Day
Project Description: Brands increasingly engage customers through social media platforms. However, just like human, brands too can make mistake when interacting with customers. The higher the engagement, the higher the chance of brands committing mistakes. These mistakes tend to be amplified in the context of social media, which may eventually lead to a firestorm against the brand. Social media firestorm refers to a sudden, rapid discharge of large quantities of intensely negative messages against a brand. Even more concerning is that these firestorms are usually accompanied by uncivil interactions between customers who have opposing views on the issue at …

African Conference on Information Systems and Technology
Internet access continues to increase among the youth in developing countries, like South Africa, due to the exponential growth of mobile penetration and the higher education system’s reliance on Information and Communication Technologies. Higher education graduates are expected to be digital citizens in the workplace, which is characterised by socio-economic inclusion and academic capability. However, this increased exposure to the Internet does present information privacy challenges. This paper investigates young adults’ perceptions and concomitant behaviours to protect their information privacy when using Internet sites. The paper further aims to unpack young adults’ understanding of the potential problems and their preparedness …

Celebration of Learning
This research project will study what marketing platforms/channels are most effective in the dissemination of new medical product news. Due to the increasing influence of Direct to Consumer advertising of pharmaceuticals and the constant development of new medications and devices, patients may now more often go to the doctor with perceptions of what they should do to manage their illness/disease. This study aims to look at how the developers of these medications/medical devices promote their products currently and how certain …

How I Organized A Music Festival At Cwu: Networking, Budgets, Artistry, Peregrine Spane
Symposium Of University Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE)
Through setting up a music festival at Central Washington University I observed a need for independent music in Ellensburg, closer gender parity in regard to event line-ups, and how in-depth research in policy, budgets, networking, and inclusion would make this possible. In this presentation I will be describing my vision, explaining logistics, and reflecting on lessons learned and where to go in the future.

Advertisements play an important role in nearly everyone's life. Every single day people view a wide range of advertisements. With the population of America becoming more and more diverse in terms of race it would make sense that advertisements would reflect that same concept. However, it does not appear that advertisements actually reflect this idea. In the 2010 ads for the Super Bowl, only four out of the sixty-seven featured an African American in an ad. (Lapchick, 2010) Not only are minorities not being adequately represented in advertisements but they also only get featured for certain ads. African Americans find …
