Knowledge Creation In Distributed Group Collaborative Workplace Writing, Virginia Yonkers

This study looked at the knowledge creation by distributed groups in a knowledge based organization as they engaged in collaborative writing. A traditional model of knowledge creation assumes knowledge is located by the individual in the forms of content, competency, and expertise. A new model of knowledge creation identifies three ways to identify knowledge (tangible representation of knowledge, procedural and tacit knowledge, partaged knowledge) which can be found internally or externally to the individual, group, or organization. Many instructors have hailed the benefits of experiential learning in the management classroom. In this article I review these benefits and present a framework that explores how competitive and cooperative learning structures can serve as integrative and motivational tools. When used appropriately, these tools can increase a student’s engagement in the learning process. Additionally, I outline how a balanced instructional approach can be created and implemented in the management classroom.

The accounting information systems course is often viewed as difficult to teach because it contains topics that are less quantifiable and structured in comparison to courses in financial or managerial!cost accounting. Yet, many AIS instructors have developed successful teaching techniques that are suited to the AIS course. A creative teaching approach for the AIS course is that of role-playing organizations and their operations, especially for transaction cycles. The Use Of Collaborative Learning As A Tool For Skill Integration: The Problem Of Group Self-Selection, Mark Linville

This study examines whether instructor intervention in group formation is necessary to achieve diversity. Consistent with prior studies, diverse groups are found to out-perform groups without diversity. Yet, without instructor intervention, groups are unlikely to achieve diversity in terms of ability and ethnic composition.
