Money Makes The Diamond: A Creation Of A Predictive Model To Forecast On-Field Performance Through Usage Of Past Financial Data, Jacob Bowman
Honors Theses
This paper examines the feasibility of using statistics to predict win values for major league baseball. Definite correlations were discovered between a Major League organization’s finances and on-field performance. Stated correlations are used to generate a predictive model that will predict on-field outcomes. Using regression analysis, such a model is construed, and successfully predicted win ratios for Major League Baseball organizations using only available past financial data.
Correlation Of Motivations To View Facebook Video Advertisements With Willingness To View Future Advertisements, Mokhlisur Rahman
Correlation Of Motivations To View Facebook Video Advertisements With Willingness To View Future Advertisements, Mokhlisur Rahman
Dissertations and Theses
Most people are familiar with the concept of Facebook video ads. Facebook offers enormous features to place in-feed video ads to promote products. An online survey was conducted at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota. The survey looked for user motivations for viewing Facebook video ads. The conceptual framework for this study was chosen as the Uses and Gratifications Theory. Drawing on the UGT, the study uses a previously established and supported scale used in previous uses and gratification studies to measure the correlation among results. All the participants in this study were university students. The study …
Ewom Correlation With Apple Stock Price Behavior, Joey Soeder
Ewom Correlation With Apple Stock Price Behavior, Joey Soeder
Research Symposium
It is widely known that eWOM influences the decision-making process of retail consumers. With the rise of commission-free trading platforms, it may also influence a growing amount of retail investors and become more relevant than ever. This study took Twitter data about the Apple, Inc. stock and conducted a sentiment analysis using the Loughran lexicon. This aggregate sentiment was then compared to stock price behavior over intervals of one hour. Logistic modelling was used to determine correlation between the two variables. Using the model, an algorithm was created that predicted 81.25% of values correctly. These findings were then compared to …
Understanding Volatility: An Analysis Of The Stock Market Return-Variance Correlation, Richard Traub
Understanding Volatility: An Analysis Of The Stock Market Return-Variance Correlation, Richard Traub
Honors Scholar Theses
This paper attempts to explain the negative correlation between stock market returns in the United States (measured by the risk premium of the S&P 500 Index) and the respective volatility of these returns. The academic research regarding two primary schools of thought on this issue, the volatility feedback effect and the leverage effect, is furthered as potential explanations for this phenomenon. A tertiary explanation relating to investor behavior is also explored as a viable cause. In order to empirically study this relationship, I examine the risk premium quintiles and the corresponding CBOE Volatility Index levels for the time-series dating from …
Analysis Of Potential Vermicompost Market In California, Jason Alan Thomas
Analysis Of Potential Vermicompost Market In California, Jason Alan Thomas
Master's Theses
Vermicompost transforms agricultural waste into a high quality soil amendment, though market acceptance remains in its infancy. This study examines how growers’ willingness to pay for vermicompost is affected by grower’s crop, region, income per acre, knowledge level of vermicompost and compost, previous use of compost, and the willingness to pay for compost. The survey results pulled together 223 responses from California growers. It was discovered growers’ had less knowledge of vermicompost than compost but were willing to pay more for vermicompost. There was statistical difference amongst the responses. It was shown the market value per ton of vermicompost lies …
Investigating The Links Between Feedback Orientation And Leadership Self-Efficacy In Field Grade Officers, Robby Key
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A myriad of challenges and shifting strategic priorities face today’s military leaders. Since the military is undergoing substantial change as it adjusts to the changing nature of war and a fluid world situation, Field Grade Officers (FGO) must actively develop and hone their leadership behavior by implementing effective feedback counsel. They must also increase their leadership self-efficacy to confidently accomplish specific leadership tasks and challenges. This non-experimental quantitative correlational research addresses the correlation of leadership self-efficacy and feedback orientation in FGOs. Given the impact of the feedback process on the FGO recipient, it is important to understand differences in how …
Synthetic Order Data Generator For Picking Data, Mohammadnaser Ansari, Behnam Rasoolian, Jeffrey S. Smith
Synthetic Order Data Generator For Picking Data, Mohammadnaser Ansari, Behnam Rasoolian, Jeffrey S. Smith
15th IMHRC Proceedings (Savannah, Georgia. USA – 2018)
Sample data are in high demand for testing and benchmarking purposes. Like many other fields, warehousing and specifically order picking process are not exempt from the need for sample data. Sample data are used in order picking pro- cesses as a way of testing new methodologies such as new routing and new storage allocation approaches. Unfortunately, access to real order picking data is limited because of confidentiality and privacy issues which make it difficult to obtain practical results from the new methodologies. On the other hand, order data follows a highly complex and correlated structure that cannot be easily extracted …
A Smart Beta Approach To Fama-French And Profitability, Joseph Malgesini
A Smart Beta Approach To Fama-French And Profitability, Joseph Malgesini
CMC Senior Theses
The Fama and French five-factor model is molded into a smart beta investment strategy with strong exposure to the profitability factor. This constructed portfolio outperforms the market significantly despite an unintentional negative correlation with profitability that can be attributed to the intra-factor return correlations. The second portfolio, constructed by investing directly in profitability as represented by gross profit over total assets, outperforms both the market and the first portfolio.
Relationship Between The California Drought And Almond Demand, Wayne E. Lacy
Relationship Between The California Drought And Almond Demand, Wayne E. Lacy
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Areas of California's Central Valley are sinking at rates up to 1 foot per year due to subsidence caused, in part, by the state's years-long drought, challenging growers to locate additional water sources for their crops. Supply and demand theory guided this correlational study. The purpose of the study was to examine the financial impact of drought on almond demand. This study included annualized historical almond industry data for the United States (N = 97), downloaded from a United States Department of Agriculture database. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicated that the model was capable of predicting almond …
Essays On Volatility Drivers, Transmissions And Equity Market Correlations In A Global Setting, Antonio M. Figueiredo
Essays On Volatility Drivers, Transmissions And Equity Market Correlations In A Global Setting, Antonio M. Figueiredo
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Volatility is a fascinating and important topic for financial markets in general, and probably the single most important issue in financial risk management. Although volatility itself is not synonymous with risk, it is closely associated with it in the realm of risk management. In this study, I focus on the volatility in the foreign exchange markets and investigate the spillover of volatility from this market to equity correlations and its impact on global equity markets’ bid-ask spreads as a proxy for market quality. I also explore the role that accounting earnings quality play in subsequent volatility in U.S. equity markets. …
Relationship Between Destructive Leadership Behaviors And Employee Turnover, Craig Michael Hyson
Relationship Between Destructive Leadership Behaviors And Employee Turnover, Craig Michael Hyson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The loss of 6 million U.S. manufacturing jobs since 2000 has severely affected communities that have lost a vital source of employment. Voluntary employee turnover has compounded the problem. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between employee turnover and destructive leadership behaviors of managers in small and medium enterprise (SME) manufacturing businesses in Warren County, New Jersey. The constructive-destructive leadership model formed the theoretical framework for the study. A random sample of 96 SME manufacturing firm employees completed the destructive leadership scale (DLS), multifactor leadership questionnaire (MLQ), and the turnover intention scale (TIS-6) via an …
The Correlation Between Commerce And Management, Rochelle Dean
The Correlation Between Commerce And Management, Rochelle Dean
Other Graduate Scholarship
This paper proposes to explore the correlation between Commerce and Management as I give a better insight on the role of Management and the effects it has globally. Commerce should be properly managed as a commercial activity that enhances the standard of living within a nation that will increase its standing in the world. When commerce is allowed to run unregulated as it has, large businesses and major conglomerates can become immune to failure making them too powerful which levies negative externalities on citizens as well as globally to the benefit of business owners. Broadly speaking, nations should be concerned …

Spirituality And Leadership: Integrating Spirituality As A Developmental Approach Of Improving Overall Leader Effectiveness, George Gregory Houston
Spirituality And Leadership: Integrating Spirituality As A Developmental Approach Of Improving Overall Leader Effectiveness, George Gregory Houston
Antioch University Full-Text Dissertations & Theses
The role of leadership continues to be a consistent topic of discussion whether you are considering the seminal work of Stogdill (1974), Burns (1978), Kouzes and Posner (1995), or Van Hooser's (2013) Leaders Ought to Know, one of Amazon's 2013 Top Ten Leadership books. A consistent question in leader development circles is-how can leaders be more effective in their role given the current state of leadership? One dimension of leadership development that is often overshadowed, downplayed, minimized, or completely ignored is the concept of spirituality. If the spiritual development of individual leaders can be integrated with other accepted leadership …
Correlation And Regression, Donal O'Brien, Pamela Sharkey Scott
Correlation And Regression, Donal O'Brien, Pamela Sharkey Scott
Books/Book Chapters
A correlation is a measure of the linear relationship between two variables. It is used when a
researcher wishes to describe the strength and direction of the relationship between two
normally continuous variables. The statistic obtained is Pearson’s product-moment
correlation (r), and SPSS also provides the statistical significance of r. In addition, if the
researcher needs to explore the relationship between two variables while statistically
controlling for a third variable, partial correlation can be used. This is useful when it is
suspected that the relationship between two variables may be influenced, or confounded, byA correlation is a measure of the …

The purpose of this research is to determine whether or not correlation exists between the indicators of price and quality. A focus group was conducted in order to determine which attributes of price and quality are most significant to the study. Hygiene and Taste were identified as the key attributes showing strong positive correlations with both price and quality.
Hedge Fund Return Correlation Under Extreme Market Condition, Melvyn Teo
Hedge Fund Return Correlation Under Extreme Market Condition, Melvyn Teo
Research Collection BNP Paribas Hedge Fund Centre
How dependent are returns across hedge fund investment strategies? We estimate the probability that each investment strategy performs poorly when other investment strategies are delivering extreme negative returns. Under extreme market conditions, we find that event driven, distressed debt, and equity long/short funds exhibit the highest correlation with other styles while commodity trading advisors, macro, and equity market neutral funds exhibit the lowest correlation. In addition, we show that Asia-focused event driven and equity market neutral funds provide diversification for investors holding US- and Europe-focused funds.
Effects Of Correlation On Intermittent Demand Forecasting And Stock Control, Nezih Altay, Lewis A. Litteral, Frank Rudisill
Effects Of Correlation On Intermittent Demand Forecasting And Stock Control, Nezih Altay, Lewis A. Litteral, Frank Rudisill
Nezih Altay
This study investigates the effects of three different types of correlation on forecasting and stock control of intermittent demand items. Applying appropriate forecasting and stock control methods to theoretically generated compound Poisson demand data we show that correlation in intermittent demand does play a role in forecast quality and stock control performance. Negative autocorrelation levels lead to higher service levels than positive values, while cost does not significantly change. Our results also show that high intermittency levels intensify these changes in service level. We also show that cross-correlation produces results in the opposite direction of autocorrelation in size or intervals; …
The Role Of Emerging Market In Investment Portfolios, Kelly Hallinan
The Role Of Emerging Market In Investment Portfolios, Kelly Hallinan
Honors Scholar Theses
This thesis explores the role of emerging markets in investment portfolios. Could an investment portfolio consisting of emerging market securities have outperformed similar portfolios that did not contain emerging markets over recent years? Gathering data from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010, mean-variance efficiency and the efficient frontier were used to compare the risk-return tradeoff for six constructed portfolios comprised of emerging markets, developed markets, and the risk-free asset. Brazil, Russia, India, and China were chosen to represent the emerging market allocation of the portfolios, accomplished by working with a BRIC Exchange Traded Fund (ETF). The S&P 500 was …
Layoffs, Top Executive Pay, And Firm Performance, Kevin F. Hallock
Layoffs, Top Executive Pay, And Firm Performance, Kevin F. Hallock
Kevin F Hallock
This paper examines the connection between layoffs, executive pay, and stock prices. Firms that announce layoffs in the previous year pay their CEOs more, and give their CEOs larger percentage raises than firms which do not have at least one layoff announcement in the previous year. However, the likelihood of announcing a layoff varies dramatically along with other dimensions, for example firm size, which are also correlated with CEO pay. Once firm-specific fixed effects are controlled for, the CEO pay premium for laying off workers disappears. In addition, there is a small negative share price reaction to layoff announcements.

Audit Partner Tenure, Audit Firm Tenure, And Discretionary Accruals: Does Long Auditor Tenure Impair Earnings Quality?, Chih-Ying Chen, Chan-Jane Lin, Yu-Chen Lin
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
Mandatory audit partner relation has been adopted in some countries while audit firm rotation is still being debated in many places. Most of the extant research on the relation between auditor tenure and earnings quality provides evidence at the audit firm level. However, since audit firm tenure is correlated with partner tenure and audit firm rotation is more costly than partner rotation, it is important to know whether earnings quality is related to audit firm tenure, partner tenure, or both. We investigate this issue using a sample of Taiwanese companies for which the audit report must be signed by two …
