The information age provides vast opportunities for organizations to improve their efficiencies by relying on big data-AI empowered analytics (BDA). The purpose of this study is to address the critical question of how BDA-fit affects organizational financial performance, taking into consideration differences between markets and customer change caused by technology turbulence. Using data collected at the firm level and building on Task- Technology Fit Theory and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, empirical results indicate that BDA-fit is important to drive organizational financial performance through the development of customer-linking and selling capabilities. These results vary across markets, with BDA-fit having stronger effects on …

ABSTRACT
One area for further study in Esports is the use of advanced analytics from a performance standpoint. This culminating experience project sought to find and implement effective performance analytics techniques, using the most popular Esport (League of Legends) as its subject. The research questions asked are (Q1) How do champions, players, and their associated in-game variables impact the results of League of Legends matches? (Q2) How can machine learning algorithms be implemented to utilize descriptive and predictive analytics for League of Legends most effectively? Additionally, while not an element of the analysis and machine learning model, it is important …

Professional Sports Organizations And Business Analytics: Monopoly Power Vs Debt Financing, Mike Troilo, Adrien Bouchet
Professional Sports Organizations And Business Analytics: Monopoly Power Vs Debt Financing, Mike Troilo, Adrien Bouchet
Journal of Applied Sport Management
In this essay, we consider the factors that explain the reticence of PSOs to be early adopters of analytics. We examine the relatively privileged position that professional sports franchises at the highest echelon in the U.S. and Canada enjoy and compare it the industry dynamics firms face in competitive environments. We remark upon the expansion of the league via debt financing, and why that promotes increased use of analytics. We also offer several propositions about the growth of analytics, and we conclude with some thoughts about what the future may hold for PSOs and analytics.

Sport Isn’T Sacred And Analytics Isn’T New: Challenging Common Notions About Sports Analytics, Grant Morgan, Marshall Magnusen
Journal of Applied Sport Management
The authors add to the debate about whether sport and numbers can cohabitate in modern day athletics, three areas are explored (albeit briefly) in the present paper. The first area focuses on the newness (or lack thereof) of analytics. The second area focuses the objectivity of analytics. The third area focuses on the idea that athletic competition is somehow sacred and should not be soiled by applying various statistical methods to practical sport performance problems.

Teaching How Supply Chain Operations Impact Financial Results: A Case Study Using Cloud-Based Simulation, Michael J. Murray
Teaching How Supply Chain Operations Impact Financial Results: A Case Study Using Cloud-Based Simulation, Michael J. Murray
Southwestern Business Administration Journal
Understanding how the execution of the supply chain business processes affect the financial performance a firm is key to running a successful enterprise. These processes are integrated across many functional groups within a business organization, and it is difficult to illustrate this integration in a classroom setting. This paper presents a case study of teaching supply chain operations and business analytics using the cloud-based SAP ERPsim manufacturing game. Although teaching about enterprise systems is often classified as part of the MIS or accounting domain, the ERPsim simulation encompasses the primary supply chain business processes, and because the enterprise system on …

The growing volume and consistency of online ordering has renewed focus on the optimization of logistics and interest in technology-driven supply chain operations. Recent trials have demonstrated the viability of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), known colloquially as drones, in last-mile deliveries. In minimizing delivery times for customers, reducing the load of logistics workers, and reducing congestion and pollution per delivery, the integration of drones into traditional delivery networks presents transformative potential to benefit consumers, firms, and society at large. This dissertation investigates operational and tactical problems that inform routing and assignment decisions for vehicle-drone delivery systems. In three essays …

Mitigating Financial Fraud Risk With Data Analytics, Clarence Goh, Gary Pan
Research Collection School Of Accountancy
The risks associated with financial fraud that modern CFOs face today is particularly high. The same report examined Accounting and Auditing Enforcement Releases (AAERs) issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the US from 2014 to 2019 and found that while the SEC frequently charged the person directly responsible for perpetuating the financial fraud, the CFO was among the most commonly charged employees. Data analytics techniques can play an important role in mitigating the risk of financial fraud for CFOs.

Journal of International Technology and Information Management
The impact of advertising expenditures on student enrollments has not been explored extensively in the literature. The higher education sector demonstrated an increase in paid advertising but soft overall higher education enrollments recently. This research explored the relationship between advertising expenditures in higher education and new enrollments using information systems and business analytics. Results indicate a weak association between advertising expenditures in higher education and the key performance indicator of new student enrollments. A contribution of this study is to the media planning function and users of information systems and analytic techniques for actionable insights.

Automation will alter the work of accountants in the coming years. However, accountants will always have a central role to play in business. In order to continue to thrive, the profession will need to position itself to capitalise on the opportunities that automation will bring. This involves identifying areas of work which computers cannot automate, and to focus on deepening contributions in these areas. This calls for a radical transformation of accounting education in order to equip accounting graduates with relevant work skills that will allow students to navigate a future workplace where computers and technology are the norm.

The history of wagering predictions and their impact on wide reaching disciplines such as statistics and economics dates to at least the 1700’s, if not before. Predicting the outcomes of sports is a multibillion-dollar business that capitalizes on these tools but is in constant development with the addition of big data analytics methods. Sportsline.com, a popular website for fantasy sports leagues, provides odds predictions in multiple sports, produces proprietary computer models of both winning and losing teams, and provides specific point estimates. To test likely candidates for inclusion in these prediction algorithms, the authors developed a computer model, and test …

The Data Revolution: An Examination Of The Use Of Scouting And Analytics In Major League Baseball Front Offices, Eleanor Weller
Honors Theses
The area of study for this thesis is the use and optimization of the sub-departments within the larger baseball operations department in Major League Baseball front offices. The research is divided into the history of the two major units—scouting and analytics. This background is followed by an investigation of the balance between them. Information for this analysis was obtained through secondary research, primarily articles for online journals and previously conducted interviews with front office personnel. I have also included some of my own work, which was completed during the summer of 2019. The findings of the analysis are that the …

Chronic Disease Management: How It And Analytics Create Healthcare Value Through The Temporal Displacement Of Care, Steve M. Thompson, Johnathan Whitaker, Rajiv Kohli, Craig Jones
Finance Faculty Publications
The treatment of chronic diseases consumes 86% of U.S. healthcare costs. While healthcare organizations have traditionally focused on treating the complications of chronic diseases, advances in information technology (IT) and analytics can help clinicians and patients manage and slow the progression of chronic diseases to result in higher quality of life for patients and lower healthcare costs.
We build on prior research to introduce the notion of temporal displacement of care (TDC), in which IT and analytics create healthcare value by displacing the time at which providers and patients make interventions to improve healthcare outcomes and reduce costs. We propose …
