Decoding Smart Contracts: Technology, Legitimacy, & Legislative Uniformity, Jared Arcari
Decoding Smart Contracts: Technology, Legitimacy, & Legislative Uniformity, Jared Arcari
Fordham Journal of Corporate & Financial Law
Blockchain technology is increasingly permeating the everyday lives of countless people. Applications of the cutting-edge technology range from secured banking to tracking mortgage titles. A particular blockchain technology, dubbed “smart contracts,” has the potential to revolutionize how individuals and companies securely contract with each other. Smart contracts, however, are not widely employed, mainly because potential users are uncertain of their enforceability as contracts under existing state contract laws. Similar skepticism slowed the acceptance of electronic signatures in the late 1990s, but was resolved ultimately through a model uniform act recognizing electronic signatures’ effectiveness across interstate borders. This Note proposes a …

Employee Lack Of Acceptance Of Technological Change, Monique Loyce Edwards
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Approximately 70% of technology projects fail, which negatively impacts resources, productivity, and organizational profitability because of employees' lack of acceptance of technological change. The purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies some midlevel managers used to improve employees' lack of acceptance of technological change. The conceptual framework for this study was the technology acceptance model. Data were collected from semistructured interviews with 5 participants from a local government organization in the southwestern region of the United States and review of organizational documentation. Data analysis included Yin's 5 phases, methodological triangulation, and theme identification. Four themes emerged from …

An Aging Workforce And The Technology Gap: An Exploratory Multiple Case Study, Julie Sulene Francis-Pettway
An Aging Workforce And The Technology Gap: An Exploratory Multiple Case Study, Julie Sulene Francis-Pettway
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
A gap exists in the literature on the actual experiences of older workers with information and communication technology adoption in technology-infused workplaces. To inform organizations on how to more effectively support this employee group's adoption of technology, the purpose of this qualitative exploratory multiple case study was designed to gain a deeper understanding of the daily experiences of older workers when adopting and adapting to information and communication technologies in a technology-infused workplace. This study is framed by, first, the selection-optimization-compensation framework for successful aging and, second, the age-inclusive training design framework. Semistructured interviews with 8 participants, observational field notes, …

Toto: A Game Of Thrones In The U.S. -- An International Marketing Case Study, Rachael Amatriain, Mona Sinha
The Kennesaw Journal of Undergraduate Research
Toto is a 101-year-old, world-renowned Japanese manufacturer of high quality, innovative, state-of-the-art, and luxurious bathroom equipment such as, toilets, bidets, washlets, and ultraviolet sanitation equipment (“Our Founding Spirit,” n.d.). However, Toto has been unable to replicate its global success in the United States (U.S.) for several possible reasons (Roberts, 2017). First, by positioning its brand as an exclusive and luxurious manufacturer of high-end technology at a high price point, Toto only appeals to a limited, top-end, niche market, limiting its widespread adoption (Roberts, 2017). Second, Toto believes in environmental stewardship and makes sustainable products with a green supply chain (“Toto …

Tech, Regulatory Arbitrage, And Limits, Elizabeth Pollman
All Faculty Scholarship
Regulatory arbitrage refers to structuring activity to take advantage of gaps or differences in regulations or laws. Examples include Facebook modifying its terms and conditions to reduce the exposure of its user data to strict European privacy laws, and Uber and other platform companies organizing their affairs to categorize workers as non-employees. This essay explores the constraints and limits on regulatory arbitrage through the lens of the technology industry, known for its adaptiveness and access to strategic resources. Specifically, the essay explores social license and the bundling of laws and resources as constraining forces on regulatory arbitrage, and the legal …

This paper explores the factors impacting business undergraduate student’s perceptions of learning and satisfaction in a US midwestern public university.
