Strategies For Improving The Success Rates Of Lean Six Sigma Projects, Victoria Reed Jan 2020

Strategies For Improving The Success Rates Of Lean Six Sigma Projects, Victoria Reed

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Ineffective Lean Six Sigma (LSS) project strategies can lead to excessive Lean Six Sigma (LSS) project costs. Manufacturing business leaders who fail to mitigate LSS project costs expose the LSS project to failure. Grounded in the theory of constraints, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore successful strategies LSS project leaders use to mitigate project costs in manufacturing. The participants comprised 16 aerospace manufacturing business leaders located in the southeast and northwest regions of the United States, who successfully implemented strategies to mitigate LSS project costs. Data were collected from semistructured interviews, a focus group, and …

3d Printing Technology On Spare Parts Business Supply Chain Management: A Case Study In Appliance Industry, Salih Boysan Jan 2020

3d Printing Technology On Spare Parts Business Supply Chain Management: A Case Study In Appliance Industry, Salih Boysan

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

This study investigates the effects of using Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, to produce spare parts within the supply chain of an appliance manufacturing company.

This research is based on an analysis of the operation of a spare parts business of an appliance manufacturing company. This research study used real data to investigate the feasibility of using 3D printing to reduce complexity in the spare parts division in terms of supplier rationalization, inventory reduction, and total cost of ownership. The research method used two scenarios: one where manufacturing spare parts traditionally was the baseline model and the …

Design Thinking & Strategic Product Planning For Highly Engineered Products, Shannon Dare Wayne Jan 2020

Design Thinking & Strategic Product Planning For Highly Engineered Products, Shannon Dare Wayne

Wayne State University Dissertations

This paper offers an integrated framework to systematically address routine challenges plaguing early product development for highly engineered and complex products, such as automobiles. The framework includes up-front strategic product planning leveraging ‘design thinking’ and ‘design execution’ through a structured process to enable adaptation under uncertainties in the product development lifecycle for customer delight and program success. Included is product planning, from fuzzy front-end until product launch, and prioritizing aligned strategic initiatives while integrating design thinking throughout the process. We also discuss two real-world case studies to emphasize the efficacy of the framework and to demonstrate practical examples of how …

Digital Platform Development For Performance Monitoring System In Oil And Gas Exploration And Production, Tanthai Poopaiboon Jan 2020

Digital Platform Development For Performance Monitoring System In Oil And Gas Exploration And Production, Tanthai Poopaiboon

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

The paper provides a case study to enhance the Performance Management System for Oil and Gas Exploration and Production industry. Although the system was designed for the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production industry, the paper could be applied effectively for other industries because the modern organisation mainly utilised the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to reflect its performance. So, the paper could be applied to most organisations with minor modifications. The Advanced Performance Management System was developed systematically powered by digital transformation according to research methodology framework, including research, analysis, project development, and result measurement. The research stage is studying …

Business Continuity Planning For A Medium-Sized Hotel Under Covid-19 Outbreak, Arunlak Tangtanapaiboon Jan 2020

Business Continuity Planning For A Medium-Sized Hotel Under Covid-19 Outbreak, Arunlak Tangtanapaiboon

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Business Continuity Planning is a subjective conceptual framework prominently used in operations related to supply chain, information technology, or governmental organizations. In this research, we have applied the concept of business continuity planning to a service business during the COVID–19 outbreaks, whose aim is to determine the business continuity objective with the maximum operational tolerable period. The proposed framework has been evaluated based on the ANOVA Test of a guest's service questionnaire of a hotel in Rayong, Thailand. We find that, by reducing business operating cost via staff working hours reduction and limiting service functions of the hotel to the …

Feasibility Study Of Business Expansion By The Exploitation Through Existhing Strength In A Construction Company, Gornekhun Jarupornpanich Jan 2020

Feasibility Study Of Business Expansion By The Exploitation Through Existhing Strength In A Construction Company, Gornekhun Jarupornpanich

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

A construction company that is called Company-A in this paper has been facing financial difficulty due to irregular cash flow which makes huge risks to the company. To reduce the risks, this study aims to expand the business to real estate to earn regular inflows in return by the exploitation through existing strength as a construction company to increase a competitive advantage to the extended business. This study is conducted by different sources of literature and data collection including academic papers, and the needed data to do a business strategy of a chosen real estate project, and to run a …

A Real Estate Valuation Model Using Boosted Feature Selection, Kankawee Chanasit Jan 2020

A Real Estate Valuation Model Using Boosted Feature Selection, Kankawee Chanasit

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

To estimate real estate values, a complex valuation model based on artificial neural network (ANN) has been established as a successful means in modern machine learning research, specifically when high-dimensional data are available. Unfortunately, the real estate data in many locations, such as Thailand, are quite limited in terms of features. Hence, it becomes mandatory to reduce the complexity using feature selection techniques. These techniques aim to improve performance by identifying significant factors and help decrease the computational overload and model construction. However, due to the lack of explicability and interpretability in ANNs, the analysis of input factors cannot be …

The Corrosion Behavior Of Aisi 304l Stainless Steel In Simulated Concrete Pore Solution. And A New Marketing Plan For Stainless Steel Rebars., Kenny Aronson Jan 2020

The Corrosion Behavior Of Aisi 304l Stainless Steel In Simulated Concrete Pore Solution. And A New Marketing Plan For Stainless Steel Rebars., Kenny Aronson

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

The purpose of this project is to study the corrosion behavior of AISI 304L stainless steel, and to present the results for a new marketing strategy for a steel rebar manufacturer. This experiment involved the usage of cyclic potentiodynamic polarization tests to investigate the effect of chlorides on the pitting corrosion behavior of AISI 304L stainless steel in a simulated concrete pore solution with 3.5 wt.% chlorides. The results of this experiment showed that the chlorides caused a large increase in the corrosion current density of AISI 304L stainless steel indicating increased susceptibility to general corrosion and pitting corrosion. The …

Enabling Flexibility Through Strategic Management Of Complex Engineering Systems, Walter Louis Barnes Ii Jan 2020

Enabling Flexibility Through Strategic Management Of Complex Engineering Systems, Walter Louis Barnes Ii

Doctoral Dissertations

”Flexibility is a highly desired attribute of many systems operating in changing or uncertain conditions. It is a common theme in complex systems to identify where flexibility is generated within a system and how to model the processes needed to maintain and sustain flexibility. The key research question that is addressed is: how do we create a new definition of workforce flexibility within a human-technology-artificial intelligence environment?

Workforce flexibility is the management of organizational labor capacities and capabilities in operational environments using a broad and diffuse set of tools and approaches to mitigate system imbalances caused by uncertainties or changes. …
