Findings in Sport, Hospitality, Entertainment, and Event Management
As of late, researchers in the field of sport psychology have made efforts to deepen our overall understanding of sport fandom and what it entails. Will The New State Laws On Fairness In Female Athletics And The Politics Of Transgender Athletes Create A New Sports Exception Under Title Ix?, Albert D. Clark
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
In the Summer of 2021, many states across the nation entered into a cultural, social, and legal war pitting the rights of female athletes against those of transgender athletes. The Maria Lionza Pilgrimage: From Sacred Mountains To Hotels, Cristina Carter
The Maria Lionza Pilgrimage: From Sacred Mountains To Hotels, Cristina Carter
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
María Lionza is an indigenous Venezuelan religion that dates back to the 14th century. Combining Catholic, West African, and indigenous religions it was outlawed from being practiced until 1959. At this moment, María Lionza no longer hides from society, being transferred through means of oral tradition and family kinship, instead, it has built a strong foundation through politics and documented literature. As the pilgrimage has gained popularity and approximately 50% of Venezuelans attend, the state has become more involved. In 1960 the state named Mount Sorte (the location of the pilgrimage) a national park; giving them more authority over the …

The Politics Of Pilgrimage Through The Prism Of Mass Media, Alokparna Das
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage involves the movement of people either as individuals or as groups in search of what can be described as the sacred. Since pilgrimage is an integral part of Indian culture and has significant participation, pilgrimage sites and centres are being used by political and corporate organisations to communicate specific messages. The political relevance of religion in our contemporary world cannot be disputed, particularly in the context of a growing consumerist culture and the divisive tactics of most political organisations. In such a scenario, pilgrimage traditions and centres are periodically taken over by political groups. As a particular pilgrimage tradition …

Should Critical Management Studies And Organization Development Collaborate? Invitation To A Contemplation, Maxim Voronov
Organization Management Journal
In this article, the author argues that despite important differences between Critical Management Studies (CMS) and Organization Development (OD), there is enough common ground to make a dialogue worthwhile for both fields and for management practice. The author outlines some major "objectives" of each field, noting some important but frequently overlooked similarities and complementarities between them. Power and empowerment are offered as examples of focal topics around which the two disciplines could have a productive discussion, suggesting that such an exchange would help CMS’ important insights about power to have more of an impact on organizational practice while enhancing OD's …

Raising Spirit In Institutional And Public Life, Jeff Coolidge
New England Journal of Public Policy
This article covers spirit and its role in invigorating and maintaining our institutions. It tracks the origin of spirit and describes the role of spirit in organizations along with its manifestations: vision and mission, each of which, the author explains, must be clearly defined and kept separate to maintain organizational spirit and effectiveness. He makes the case that spirit can be assessed and nurtured and considers it important for funders and other interested parties to do so. Such assessment must identify elements that could corrupt this spirit. While focusing on nonprofit institutions, he demonstrates where spirit and its effects are …
