This article focuses on Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination against any qualified individual with a disability in hiring, compensation, promotion, termination, and job opportunities. The Perceptions Of Middle Class Male And Female Consumers Regarding Internet Retailing, Shane R. Premeaux
The Perceptions Of Middle Class Male And Female Consumers Regarding Internet Retailing, Shane R. Premeaux
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
This study analyzes consumer perceptions regarding Internet retailing. Although there were differences between the attitudes of males and females regarding several aspects of Internet retailing the overall consensus was positive. Most of the perceptual differences were more a matter of intensity than direction. The preferred retail model is a “clicks-and-bricks” approach, where a retailer has a brick-and-mortar store and a companion web site. There was general agreement that a visually stimulating web site, with web pages for each product category, that is easy to navigate, with an effective search procedure enhances Internet shopping. There was also agreement that online shopping …

Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
Much debate in the early nineties centered on whether the federal entitlement program Aid for Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) reduced welfare dependency. Many contend that AFDC discouraged work, increased welfare dependency, and undermined the institution of family. Partly in response to these criticisms, welfare was reformed through the Personal Responsibility and Work Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) in 1996. PRWORA modified the primary objectives of welfare by placing more emphasis on work experience accumulation and less on human capital accumulation. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) was designed to meet this primary objective. Washington State’s TANF program, WorkFirst, utilizes a progressive …

Common Forensic Authentication And Non-Repudiation Techniques To Deter Plagiarism, James Frost, Gamewell Gantt
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
The issue of academic integrity is a priority in any business school. Student education is one of the principal methods to deter plagiarism. Also, the instructor can direct students in paper preparation by requiring preliminary and final proposals, insisting on retention of source material and guiding the student to appropriate resources. Further, it is equally important for the instructor to use strong techniques to detect and confirm student plagiarism plus an active review of all submissions, not just selected “suspicious” student work. Finally, it is important to use computer forensic techniques to authenticate and avoid non-repudiation of student actions.
Corporate Responsibility To Provide Work-Family Programs, Susan R. Madsen
Corporate Responsibility To Provide Work-Family Programs, Susan R. Madsen
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
Defining and determining the responsibility of business organizations to provide and assist employees with work-family programs and initiatives (e.g., employee assistance programs, parental leave extensions, childcare, elder care benefits, flextime, compressed workweek, and telecommuting) is a current critical issue that has ignited controversy during the past few decades. The author argues that work-family programs (at some level) should be a part of every company and should be strongly linked to employer benefits. To expand and implement work-family programs and services in companies today, she argues that training and educating business leaders about work-family options and benefits is the bestsolution. This paper …

Crisis Planning In The Lodging Industry: A Response To The “It Can’T Happen To Us” Mentality, John E. Spillan, William Crandall
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
Although the crisis management literature addressing the needs of larger organizations is plentiful, little has been written on this subject concerning the lodging industry. This study examines the perceptions and experiences with crisis events among hotel and motel owners/managers located throughout U.S.In particular, we investigate if concern is generated more from the occurrence of a crisis event or from the presence of a crisis management team. The findings reveal that of the lodging facilities surveyed, 59.8%of the 174 respondents indicated they have a crisis management team, and 74% experienced a crisis of some type within the last three years. This study …
