The Development Of Accounting And Financial Reporting: A Global Perspective Is Universal Acceptance Of International Accounting Standards Imminent?, Deborah Sales
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Accounting methodologies have been centuries in the making. As societies matured fiscally, so did corresponding accounting techniques. Since societies evolved independently, there is now a variety of extant reporting practices. The technological advances of the latter part of the twentieth century have taken trade to a new level. Competition for products and capital has increased exponentially. Investors depend upon the information recorded in financial reports to determine where they will invest their resources. The information derived from financial reports may be misunderstood when the reporting entity is from another country, however. This lack of "harmony" is one of the latest …
Integrated Marketing Communications And The Role Of Public Relations, Jennifer Lynch
Integrated Marketing Communications And The Role Of Public Relations, Jennifer Lynch
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Integrated Marketing Communications is new and exciting. It's what's happening with communications today. However, as some define IMC in current literature, it cannot be a substitute for public relations, advertising, and marketing. Other definitions, though, seem to be more inclusive of all three functions. IMC combines a number of communication methods, but it is often flawed in scope. Experts' definitions differ, and IMC won't succeed to its fullest potential until there is more agreement among communicators. IMC is a whole new way of thinking, and may be more appropriately called Integrated Communications. It is a conglomeration of communication techniques and …
A Study Of How Women Are Perceived In The Workforce, Christopher Roberts
A Study Of How Women Are Perceived In The Workforce, Christopher Roberts
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Women are defined as a minority in the United States. This is not because there are fewer women than men in our country but because they have traditionally held less power and earned salaries 39% lower than the average male's income (Conrad, 1994). although the gap in pay is decreasing, it illustrates the different expectations our culture places on men and women. Whether we embrace the idea or reject it, men and women also behave differently. Researchers argue that these differing behavioral patterns are either genetic or learned. This paper explores communication differences in an organizational setting. More specifically, it …

Benefits Of Using Team Choice For Windows As A Multi-Criteria Decision Making Group Decision Support System, Eddie Goggans
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Various experiments have been conducted over the past ten years using several different types of group decision support systems (GDSSs). Many previous GDSS designs have had success in these experiments with brainstorming but have been limited in providing judgment and choice support. TeamChoice for Windows is a multi-criteria decision making GDSS that is currently under development in an effort to overcome the limitations of previous systems and to significantly advance the capabilities of GDSSs. This paper discusses some of the general aspects of GDSSs, existing limitations, and explains the developments and use of TeamChoice for Windows as a multi-criteria decision …

Nashville's Printing And Publishing Sector: A Historical And Empirical Study And Its Impact Upon The Region, David Carr
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Urban economics, like all other fields of economics, is a science. A region must be identified, then dissected and analyzed, if one is to determine what gives it life. A study of Nashville, for example. reveals that it depends upon far more than country music for its economic survival. Indeed, the city is a complex organism made of components that must complement each other to insure their existence. One of the most important aspects of Nashville's stability is its locale. Its centralized location, much like a heart, is serviced by arteries of railroads, highways, airways, and river routes. Because of …
