Crisis Management: Unveiling Information And Communication Technologies’ Revamped Role Through The Lens Of Sub-Saharan African Countries During Covid-19, Ruthbetha Kateule, Egidius Kamanyi, Mahadia Tunga
The African Journal of Information Systems
The management of COVID-19 pandemic has revealed inefficiencies in coordinating global response, particularly in African countries. Therefore, creating an urgent need to examine the literature on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in crisis management to appreciate its contextual role. Employing a systematic review, using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA), this paper critically assessed the extent of the use of ICT in crisis management in Africa’s response to COVID-19 to reconstruct its resilience against future crises. Findings indicate that while countries with limited ICT infrastructure faced considerable challenges in utilizing ICT solutions in COVID-19 management, countries …
A Framework For Accessing Patient Big Data: Ant View Of A South African Health Facility, Sibulela Mgudlwa, Tiko Iyamu
A Framework For Accessing Patient Big Data: Ant View Of A South African Health Facility, Sibulela Mgudlwa, Tiko Iyamu
The African Journal of Information Systems
This study was undertaken to develop a framework that can be used to guide analysis when translating and transforming big data into a more purposeful resource for healthcare service delivery in South Africa. It is intended to assist in addressing some of the challenges encountered by healthcare facilities. Qualitative data were collected, with a focus on the types of interactions that happen between actors when accessing and using patients’ big data for healthcare services. Actor-network theory (ANT) was applied as a lens in the analysis of the data, to examine the relationships between actors when accessing and using big data …
Clarifying Is Project Complexity Through Factor Analysis, Nazeer Joseph, Carl Marnewick
Clarifying Is Project Complexity Through Factor Analysis, Nazeer Joseph, Carl Marnewick
The African Journal of Information Systems
Research shows that the information systems domain is underrepresented in project complexity as it has only eight percent representation within the project complexity landscape. Emphasis is placed mostly on generic project management and engineering project management. This begs the question of how well IS project complexity is understood in literature? The goal of this research is to perform the groundwork for developing new theoretical foundations for information systems (IS) project complexity by enriching previous work. Complexity theory was applied to develop a comprehensive theoretical model for IS project complexity. The IS project complexity (ISPC) model was developed and revealed that …
An Examination Of Fit And The Use Of Mobile Devices For Performing Tasks, Carole L. Hollingsworth
An Examination Of Fit And The Use Of Mobile Devices For Performing Tasks, Carole L. Hollingsworth
Doctor of Business Administration Dissertations
This research seeks to better understand an individual’s use of mobile devices and the matching fit between type of mobile device and activity. As mobile devices swiftly progress and alter individuals’ ways of interacting with technology, a more comprehensive understanding of how tasks are impacted may help ensure appropriate device selection. The ability for more targeted device selection may increase use and help mobile device users and designers avoid the pitfalls of pre-existing, traditional technology.
Building on identified antecedents of success from the DeLone & McLean Information Systems Success Model and focusing on the measurement of hedonic and utilitarian tasks …
End-User Computing Applications, Mary C. Hill, W. Alan Barnes
End-User Computing Applications, Mary C. Hill, W. Alan Barnes
Faculty Articles
Businesses today rely on the work being done by staff using personal computers. The proliferation of personal computers has led to widespread implementation of end-user computing applications. As their name implies, end-user applications are designed, implemented, and controlled by users rather than by IT professionals. End-user applications can be risky for organizations, both with respect to management decision making and to financial reporting. For public companies, the risk involved in these applications has been increased by the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which call for management to document end-to-end financial operations and internal control structures. This article review …
Journey To The Center Of The Core: Computers And The Internet In The Core Curriculum, Jorge Pérez, Meg C. Murray
Journey To The Center Of The Core: Computers And The Internet In The Core Curriculum, Jorge Pérez, Meg C. Murray
Faculty Articles
Computers, digitalization and the Internet have transformed modern society. Commerce, education, communication and socialization will never be the same. Surprisingly, many universities do not require a computing course in the core curriculum. Critical information technology (IT) competencies are often taken for granted, to the detriment of students who lack computing and Internet skills. This paper describes an initiative undertaken by a computer science and information systems department to assess and remediate IT skills needed by all university students, regardless of major. The project is evolving along several dimensions: identification of discipline-independent IT competencies, assessment of IT skills among current and …
