Technology Acceptance And Use In A Knowledge Management Support System: An Exploratory Case Study Of Air Force Knowledge Now Communities Of Practice, John P. Tate
Theses and Dissertations
Over the past five to seven years, the United States Air Force has begun to employ online Communities of Practice (CoP) as a means to collaborate virtually. During this time, there have been several studies of these online communities to better understand their use, as well as their lack of use. The primary goal of this research is to apply the theories of Davis' (1989) technology acceptance model to identify the factors that affect the acceptance and use of CoPs. These findings are then used to provide suggestions on how to improve the acceptance and use of CoPs for CoP …

An Update On Analyzing Differences Between Public And Private Sector Information Resource Management: Strategic Information Challenges And Critical Technologies, James R. Orlovsky
Theses and Dissertations
Change is a constant within our contemporary IRM environment. The rapid development of information and communication technologies has been the most predominant among the many agents of change that are forcing a reevaluation of the role of the IRM professional. Few studies to date have compared public and private sector CIO perceptions concerning the IRM challenges and critical technologies faced by their organization. An earlier study concluded that the sectors CIOs do perceive to be faced with many of the same challenges and also view many of the same technologies as critical to the organization's operations. A limiting factor identified …

Organizing To Exploit The Information Domain: A Content Analysis Of The Transformation Literature, Todd S. Schug
Theses and Dissertations
The US Department of Defense (DoD) has embarked on an ambitious plan to transform itself. A driving force behind this transformation is a realization that society has moved into an information age and that information age warfare will be significantly different from anything that has gone before it. At the heart of the transformation effort is a concept known as Network Centric Warfare (NCW). Transformation, information age warfare, and NCW all depend heavily on how the DoD handles the information domain. Although there are many organization structure/design issues that will derive from the transformation imperatives, one of central concerns is …

Value-Focused Thinking In The Presence Of Weight Ambiguity: A Solution Technique Using Monte Carlo Simulation, Timothy W. Porter
Value-Focused Thinking In The Presence Of Weight Ambiguity: A Solution Technique Using Monte Carlo Simulation, Timothy W. Porter
Theses and Dissertations
When a Decision Maker is asked to provide his or her preferences, the response represents a snapshot in time. While their preference structure elicited at any given moment may represent their revealed preferences at that point in time, it may change over time. These changing preferences over time represent ambiguity in the decision maker's preferences. Other sources of ambiguity may exist. One weakness of many decision analysis techniques today is the inability to incorporate ambiguity into the basic decision model. The existence of the problem has been known and commented on for many years. This research addresses that problem. It …

Theses and Dissertations
The office of the Chief Information Officer is still new within public sector organizations. Further, the office of the CIO was hastily created by Federal laws that provide only broad direction for its implementation and practice while at the same time limiting each office's power and reach within Federal agencies. Presently, because of broadly defined scope and the newness of the office in the public sector, Federal CIOs now face many challenges and critical technologies in managing their agency's information resources. Private sector organizations have a valuable knowledge base from their CIO office implementation efforts and subsequent operations. This private …
The Effects Of Technology Turnover On Workplace Productivity Perceptions, Robert W. Povlich Jr.
The Effects Of Technology Turnover On Workplace Productivity Perceptions, Robert W. Povlich Jr.
Theses and Dissertations
The productivity paradox is a theory that suggests that investments in Information Technology (IT) do not necessarily lead to associated gains in the productivity of the organization (Malakoff 2000; Hitt and Brynjolfsson, 1996). This perception leads practitioners to question if acquiring new IT systems for the sake of having the latest technology will make their organization any more productive (Liebmann, 1996). Understanding the problem that is facing the practitioners, this research was undertaken to attempt to answer some of the underlying questions relating to the perceptions held about the relationship between IT expenditures and workplace productivity with respect to Air …
