This study examines hazard perception effects on the demand for insurance with special focus on motorcycle riders in Lagos state. For this purpose, the researchers have been able to examine selected hazard perception determinants and their effects on the insuring attitude and desire of motorcycle riders. An explanatory research design was employed and a convenience sampling type of the nonprobability sampling technique was adopted. Data was gathered by interviews conducted at motorcycle parks along the Lagos-Badagry expressway. Risk is generally understood as a product of the likelihood and consequence of an event. However, the way in which estimations of consequences are formed is unclear due to the complexities of human perception. In particular, the influence of Affect, defined as positive or negative qualities subjectively assigned to stimuli, may skew risk consequence judgements. Thus a clearer understanding of the role of Affect in risk consequence estimations has significant implications for risk management, risk communication and policy formulation.

The US government has invested over $3 trillion in financial assistance programs and bailouts for ailing companies affected by the 2007-2009 financial crisis. This paper analyzes the different government policy efforts in response to the collapse of the U.S. financial sector and whether these efforts increased the risk of moral hazard for small, medium, and large banks. Moral hazard occurs when a company has an incentive to take greater risks than it otherwise would, because the company gains all the benefits from excessive risk-taking, but does not bear all of the losses.
