This dissertation manuscript is rooted in the notion that an employee’s perception of their immediate supervisor’s leadership effectiveness, and the associated social exchange, are significant contributors to their engagement. Engagement, when consistently elevated, results in positive organizational outcomes. While perceived leadership effectiveness and engagement present a relatively intuitive connection, other less clearly defined factors might moderate this relationship. These factors include a myriad of supervisor and employee traits and behaviors, many of which represent levels and dimensions of diversity. The purpose of this study was to identify strategies used by legal assistants to engage, stay engaged, and reengage, when appropriate, in their work, in particular when common organizational efforts fall short or do not exist. Constructivism and job demands-resources (JD-R) were the primary frameworks for understanding and analyzing the phenomenon of developing engagement strategies.

Qualitative data were drawn through semi-structured interviews with 16 legal assistants. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. Trustworthiness and validity were enhanced by using multiple respondents and allowing each to review the transcripts for accuracy, fairness, and clarity. A Correlational Study Of Manager-Employee Relationship, Employee Rewards, And Employee Engagement, Hilda M. Concepcion

Organizational leaders are challenged with loss of productivity due to lack of employee engagement, making employee engagement a top priority for organizational executives worldwide. Grounded in Emerson’s social exchange theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between manager-employee relationship and employee rewards and employee engagement. Employees (N = 31) of a U.S. organization completed the Intrinsic Work Rewards Survey, Extrinsic Rewards on Creativity Measure, and the Work and Well-being Survey. The results of the multiple linear regression indicated a statistically significant relationship, F(2, 28) = 32.875, p < .001, R2 = .701. Employee rewards was the only statistically significant predictor of employee engagement (t = 6.074, p < .001). A recommendation is for organizational leaders to establish reward programs that address employee needs for compensation, achievement, and development. This implications for positive social change include the potential for employees to benefit from financial stability and well-being. The organization may achieve higher performance and profitability, enabling the organization to invest in job creation and community economic development.

Small businesses, with 50 or fewer employees, rarely offer workplace retirement plans. The lack of effective retirement plan options leads to employee stress, financial strain, and social instabilities. The purpose of this research is to study why small business owners make poor decisions about workplace retirement plans. The study evaluates the information supply chain and determines that financial advisors are a critical information delivery mechanism. However, they do not take the time to discuss the various retirement plan options available with the small business owners which leads to lack of plan adoption.
