Speech At Florida Southern College, C. William Pollard

C. William Pollard Papers

In this speech at Florida Southern College (Lakeland, FL), Pollard considers how the free-market system can be a force for good if only business leaders would conceive of themselves as stewards of any given firm's greatest asset, namely its people.

Nfl After Four Weeks - Nfl In Court - Fay Vincent Resigns As Comish- And More, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Four weeks into the new National Football League season and already there are a number of surprises. First and foremost among them is the performance of the 3-1 Tampa Bay Bucs, who last Sunday won their first road game after 15 straight losses. The much maligned Sam Wyche seems to have his team going fairly well so far, especially the previously disappointing Vinny Testaverde, who seemed to be suffering from secondary illiteracy until the last few weeks. Before you go out and buy playoff tickets, or even a pair of orange pants, you might note that the Bucs victims are …

Some Evidence On The Empirical Significance Of Credit Rationing, Allen N. Berger, Gregory F. Udell Oct 1992

Some Evidence On The Empirical Significance Of Credit Rationing, Allen N. Berger, Gregory F. Udell

Faculty Publications

This paper examines the credit rationing debate using detailed contract information on over one million commercial bank loans from 1977 to 1988. While commercial loan rates are "Sticky," consistent with rationing, this stickiness varies with loan contract terms in ways that are not predicted by equilibrium credit rationing theory. In addition, the proportion of new loans issued under commitment does not increase significantly when credit markets are tight, despite the fact that borrowers without commitments can be rationed whereas commitment borrowers are contractually insulated from rationing. Overall, the data suggest that equilibrium rationing is not a significant macroeconomic phenomenon.

Learning Styles Of Students And Instructors: An Analysis Of Course Performance And Satisfaction, Marshall A. Geiger, Edmund J. Boyle Oct 1992

Learning Styles Of Students And Instructors: An Analysis Of Course Performance And Satisfaction, Marshall A. Geiger, Edmund J. Boyle

Accounting Faculty Publications

Accounting educators have utilized Kolb's Learning Style Inventory (LSI) in the assessment of accounting students and the accounting curriculum. This study extends these earlier works by examining the effect of student and instructor learning style, as measured by the revised 1985 LSI, on introductory course performance and ratings of satisfaction with both the course and the instructor.

The results indicate no significant effect of student/teacher learning style interaction on final course grade or students' ratings of satisfaction. However, instructors having a convergent learning style were given significantly higher satisfaction ratings regardless of student learning style.

Motivating Athletes: Tampons At Catholic University And Bull Castration At Mississippi St., Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Probably the most famous halftime speech ever given was the Knute Rockne, "Win One for the Gipper" classic, which many of us have seen delivered by Pat O'Brien in "The Knute Rockne Story." It is remembered as well because the Gipper was played by the somnambulant President of the United States who incessantly evoked its memory for whatever feeble cause he was pushing. As motivational speeches go this one has no peer.

Nfl: Some Labor History, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Over the past three months an antitrust suit was before a jury of eight women in a Minneapolis Federal Court. Eight players brought suit against the National Football League claiming that the Plan B free agency system was illegal. The verdict rendered last week ruled Plan B too restrictive and awarded four of the players considerable damages, while leaving the NFL to pay the legal fees for both sides. These fees are in excess of $10M. Other matters of free agency arising from the decision are yet to be ruled upon by the judge.
