This project for Leadership and Ethics 502 was to develop a code of ethics for Casa Cornelia Law Center that outlines the ethical principles that reflects its values and the manner in which the board, staff and volunteers are expected to carry out the organization's mission and conduct their work. To accompany the Code, a three-year implementation plan was created to assist the organization in assimilating the Code into the organizational culture of Casa Cornelia.

What started as a modest shelter for homeless families in downtown San Diego, has grown into Father Joe’s Villages (FJV), a multi-program, multi-dimensional approach to break the cycle of homelessness.
Since 1982, Fr. Student learning outcomes and student satisfaction of nonprofit management graduate degree programs have received much attention recently from researchers. However, little research examines the community impact of such programs.
This paper reports findings from a community impact study of the Masters of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership and Management at the University of San Diego. An extensive qualitative study was conducted to determine whether student-led applied projects conducted for nonprofit organizations had an impact on those organizations, and if so, to assess the type and duration of that impact. In January 2009, a team of students from the University of San Diego’s (USD) Nonprofit Leadership and Management conducted a pre-planning exercise to help prepare the San Diego Natural History Museum (SDNHM) for its 2012-2022 strategic plan. With an annual attendance last year of more than 600,000 visitors, the Museum is one of the largest cultural institutions in Balboa Park. The consulting team engaged in an extensive discovery process, including a review of the Museum’s current strategic plan1 and preliminary key informant interviews. This study focused on philanthropic organizations that are engaged in organized grantmaking in San Diego County. The bulk of the organizations studied are classified as private foundations; data that describe other important grantmaking organizations—i.e., San Diego’s community foundations, selected corporate giving programs, and the United Way of San Diego—also were analyzed.

WiLDCOAST, an environmental nonprofit on the United States-Mexico border has a program that focuses on the flow of used tires into California from Mexico was a huge burden on local communities. This program was the basis for this advocacy campaign which focuses on a legislative "fix" to "break the tire cycle," and reduce the associated economic, public health, and environmental impacts that these tires cause.
This project became state law.

USD Evaluation of Applied Learning Model in Nonprofit Leadership and Management Master's Program
In Spring 2008 the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit Research, along with the SOLES Director of Assessment, completed an alumni survey. The survey focused on how well the Nonprofit Leadership and Management program learning outcomes prepared the alumni for their professional roles, how those roles may have changed as a result of their preparation, their level of satisfaction with the various components of the program, and their perspectives on their current involvement with the program. All 65 alumni of the program were invited to participate in the survey.

For a full year more than 168 nonprofit practitioners participated in a dialogue series about nonprofit ethics that culminated in a large-scale forum on October 27, 2006.
