Job Embeddedness And Turnover Intentions: The Moderating Role Of Affectivity Traits, Career Stages And Perceptions Of Organisational Politics, Emmanuel Twumasi Ampofo

The study tested the applicability of job embeddedness (JE) theory in Ghana. It also examined moderating effects of affectivity traits, career stage and perceptions of organisational politics (POP) on the JE–turnover intentions relationship. Analyses revealed that composite JE and its dimensions and sub-dimensions (except community fit) were negatively related to turnover intentions. Affectivity traits, POP and career stages moderated the JE–turnover intentions relationship. The study expands the predictive validity of JE to Ghana and adds to the few moderators that have been identified in previous studies. Strategies for increasing managerial employees’ embeddedness and reducing their turnover are proposed.

This thesis examines the effect of the board of directors and supervisory board on conservatism and firm performance, respectively, and the benefits of conservatism on performance. In addition, this thesis investigates whether the effectiveness of firms’ governance on conservatism and firm performance is influenced by ownership concentration and state ownership. The extant literature has shown that conservatism reduced agency conflict and was beneficial for corporate governance in developed countries; however, little evidence has been provided for emerging countries such as China.

This thesis looks at how accurately project managers can pre-predict what problems may arise during an Information Systems project they are about to commence based on their experience of previous projects. The second part investigates what actions a project manager is likely to take to expedite a troubled project. Both of these questions are investigated and it is found that while project managers can confidently predict which problems could arise, and how to take actions to rectify such actions when they occur, these problems still arise.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the economic incentives of firms to voluntarily disclose cash flow information prior to the operation of the approved standard AASB 1026 Statement of Cash Flows in 1992. This thesis looks at a methodology that can be used to cost a specific human resource activity - absenteeism. It applies the costing framework established by Cascio (1991) to three local organisations, with differing results and reactions. The cost of absenteeism ranged from $461 per employee up to $1,454 per employee per annum. Other costing techniques for Human Resource Departments are also looked at, but the main thrust of this thesis is the costing of absenteeism.
