Accounting For The Gift: Theology And Ethics In Accounting, Daniel Sebastian Apr 2024

Accounting For The Gift: Theology And Ethics In Accounting, Daniel Sebastian

Religious Studies Theses and Dissertations

Accounting is often assumed to be a neutral presentation of the facts of economic activities and actions. Its double-entry system means that it is always in balance and comports to the rigor of mathematical formulas, and it is taken to be a matter of empirical counting that lends it certainty as well. The dissertation argues that this description of accounting is inadequate. Accounting is better seen as a political tool and technology for producing trust that can help resolve social conflicts. As such, accounting is not value-neutral but carries within it a particular sociality that has moral implications. These moral …

The Philippine Economy During The Japanese Occupation, Jasper Lem Sep 2023

The Philippine Economy During The Japanese Occupation, Jasper Lem

Asian Studies: Student Scholarship & Creative Works

The economy of the Philippines was derailed by the Japanese occupation during World War II. As an American colony before World War II, the Philippines had close amicable ties with the United States highlighted by promises of independence on July 4th, 1946. The Philippines also maintained a beneficial economic relationship with the States at this time through extensive foreign trade. However, because of the Japanese invasion, the Philippine economy was robbed of this profitable foreign trade and the promise of independence, severely crippling the island nation and her morale. The first policies implemented by Japan were designed to control the …

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Playing To Win: The Effects Of Implementing Gamification Strategies In Product Marketing, Sabrina Stone Jan 2023

Playing To Win: The Effects Of Implementing Gamification Strategies In Product Marketing, Sabrina Stone

CMC Senior Theses

Let’s play a game. What effect do you think video games have on twenty-first-century marketing? In this age defined by its nature of digitality, capturing the attention of consumers is an arduous competition. Through market segmentation, research, and the observable variables of consumer behavior, product marketing has turned to video games as a solution to appeal to younger demographics. Gamification is an increasingly applied product marketing strategy employed to increase favorable metrics. Of those key performance indicators (KPIs), boosted measures such as click-through rates, impressions, and engagement rates suggest that gamification is a strategic opportunity to persuade consumers to take …

The Threat Of Communism To Judeo-Christian Tradition And How To Stop It, Vittoria D'Addesi Apr 2022

The Threat Of Communism To Judeo-Christian Tradition And How To Stop It, Vittoria D'Addesi

Senior Honors Theses

Judeo-Christian tradition is what has made America great. Today, the biggest threat to Judeo-Christian values in the United States is the rise of communism. This threat stems from the large-scale decline in the percentage of the American population who adheres to a biblical worldview. A biblical worldview is the moral foundation for Judeo-Christian tradition, so without a dominant biblical worldview, Judeo-Christian tradition cannot survive. There are two parts to the stopping the spread of communism. First, a biblical worldview must be restored to America. Second, capitalism must be upheld because it is the only economic system with which a biblical …

China’S Global Monopoly On Rare-Earth Elements, Gustavo Ferreira, Jamie Critelli Mar 2022

China’S Global Monopoly On Rare-Earth Elements, Gustavo Ferreira, Jamie Critelli

The US Army War College Quarterly: Parameters

This article delivers a novel economic analysis of US dependence on China for rare-earth elements and sheds light on how Western nations may exploit the limitations of limit pricing to break China’s global monopoly in rare-earth element production and refinement. This analytical framework, supported by a comprehensive literature review, the application of microeconomic and industrial organization concepts, and two case-study scenarios, provides several policy recommendations to address the most important foreign policy challenge the United States has faced since the end of the Cold War.

Evaluating Microfinance And The Potential To Economically Empower Women In The Sacred Valley Of Peru, Allison Mcnamara May 2021

Evaluating Microfinance And The Potential To Economically Empower Women In The Sacred Valley Of Peru, Allison Mcnamara

CISLA Senior Integrative Projects

In the past 30 years, microfinance loans have become a highly popular strategy to reduce poverty and economically empower people in developing countries. Women in particular have become the primary recipients of microfinance loans. However, recent studies show that the loans only have short-term benefits, and ultimately contribute to the indebtedness of the Global South. This paper studies the effectiveness of microfinance loans in the Sacred Valley of Peru (Cusco), and their ability, or lack thereof, to economically empower women in this region.

Determinants Of Broadway Theatre Demand, Emily Falkenstein Oct 2020

Determinants Of Broadway Theatre Demand, Emily Falkenstein

Honors Projects and Presentations: Undergraduate

This research identifies many reasons why a theatregoer may choose to attend one Broadway show over another and focuses on the role of familiarity on demand. In response to recent trends, specifically movies produced as stage musicals, this research estimates how classification as an adaptation affects grosses and capacity. Using data from The Broadway Theatre League and the Internet Broadway Database, the author completes an econometric analysis of the drivers of demand for different shows within the 2018-2019 Broadway season. When controlling for previously studied drivers of demand such as revivals and actor popularity, this analysis identifies significant and positive …

In 2018, the average salary in the NBA was 6.4 million dollars, while the average salary in the WNBA was 71,635 dollars. Cartel Practices And Policies In The World War Ii Era, Caleb Yoken Jun 2019

Cartel Practices And Policies In The World War Ii Era, Caleb Yoken

Honors Theses

The goal of this thesis is to examine cartels in the World War II era: how and why they operated, why they existed, and any assistance they may or may not have received from their respective governments. This thesis, in particular, will focus on three countries, the United States, Germany, and Britain. Cartels are typically defined through the lens of monopolized business activity that can deal with anything from petroleum and steel to pharmaceuticals, and take actions to restrict output and raise prices to eliminate their competition. The research finds that cartels that operated in Europe during this era were …
