In one of the most famous of literary love quadrangles, A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the tale of Hermia, Demetrius, Lysander, and Helena; four misguided lovers whose journey into the woods lands them in even more trouble, as members of the fairy kingdom decide to use them as veritable pawns in their own love games. Against the backdrop of the wedding of Duke Theseus and Hippolyta, and the fiery battle of wills between the Fairy King and Queen, Oberon and Titania, the four lovers are challenged by magic and trickery to finally work out what love is all about.

Women Who Steal, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department Jun 2001

Women Who Steal, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department

2001 Summer Theatre

Carter W. Lewis' new play introduces us to Peggy and Karen, the latter of whom has recently commited, as they say, adultery with the former's husband. Women Who Steal is about the aftermath of that revelation, and it's a hilarious, tightly constructed joy ride, complete with squealing tires and tequila-chugging and Meat Loaf -- yes: Meat Loaf! -- blaring from the car radio. How these women deal with each other as they attempt to resolve the resultant conflict and stress, how they interact with the different men in their lives, is played out in a story that reaches the fullness …

Our Country's Good, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department Feb 2001

Our Country's Good, Otterbein University Theatre And Dance Department

2000-2001 Season

A leading London critic describes it as "highly theatrical, often funny and at times dark and disturbing, it sets an infant civilization on the stage with clarity, economy and insight [as] it relates the true story of the first theatrical performance in Australia." In June 1789 in the penal colony that was later to become the city of Sydney, a marine lieutenant decides to put on a play to celebrate the king's birthday. He casts the play with the English convicts who populate this distant Australian prison camp. Few of them can read, let alone act, and the play is …

Rev. Of Theatre Under The Nazis, Ed. John London., William Grange

Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film: Faculty Publications and Creative Activity

John London’s edition of six essays attempts no comprehensive estimation of theatre under the Nazis as one might assume from the title, but rather provides six valuable windows through which one may glimpse sometimes startling illustrations of how political forces can easily overcome and subdue artistic expression, exploit idealism for totalitarian purposes, and give the sheen of political correctness to cultural perversion.

James Gordon Bennett., owner of the New York Herald, was the visionary founder of the Casino Theatre at Newport, Rhode Island. The Casino, a complex located on fashionable Bellevue Avenue, was recognized as the first complete resort facility in America. The theatre was an integral part of this complex. Between 1879 and 1881, this showcase was designed by the New York firm of McKim, Mead & White. White designed the theatre.

It is important to recognize that theatrical productions were a notable component of Newport life from pre-Revolutionary times. These theatrical endeavors were a prelude to the Newport Casino Theatre. …
