Biennial Conference: The Social Practice of Human Rights
Human rights are historically understood as ‘liberal’ rhetoric, yet the following study will present an unprecedented turn by an Israeli ‘right-wing’ organization to human rights language and methodologies as a means to advance their goals. For context, the study will review how ‘liberal’ organizations in the region have employed rights-based frameworks, dating back to the rise of the first intifada in the late 1980’s. The aim of the first-year writing program at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is to equip students with critical reading and writing tools and strategies to advance effective written communication well into their future. Ethical Implications Of The Academic Battle Between Evolutionists And Interventionists In The Search For Truth About Origins, Mihai Bijacu

In the outgoing discussion over the very hot topic of the evolution - creation controversy, the two sides have often forgotten that the ultimate goal is to find out the truth about origins and not to defeat the opponent. This paper explores four types of misconducts when dealing with origins (ad hominem attacks, straw man arguments, misrepresenting challenges and passing opinions as facts) and suggests ways of dealing with them in order to foster a sound environment for arguments on both sides to be heard faithfully and to promote the search for truth.

Showcase of Faculty Scholarly & Creative Activity
From the early 1940's through the 1960's, some of the most important articles in rhetoric and composition were written by University of Chicago faculty, and it was these articles that became the touchstones of rhetorical education in the institutional return to rhetoric in the latter half of the twentieth century. By organizing these articles according to their institutional context, my book, Rhetoric at the University of Chicago, sheds new light on the beginnings of rhetoric and composition and demonstrates the significance of historical context in avoiding the misuse of these articles as foundationalist rhetorical theory.
