Michel Foucault E As Lutas Políticas Do Presente: Para Além Do Sujeito Identitário De Direitos, Andre De Macedo Duarte, Maria Rita De Assis César

Andre de Macedo Duarte

ABSTRACT. The text discusses Foucauldian notions such as aesthetics of existence and subjectivation, employing them in order to clarify new forms of political action promoted by autonomous collectives such as the Slut Walk, whose queer inspiration establishes a clear distinction against traditional identity movements. We argue that the political actions conducted by this particular collective can be best understood by relating them to Foucault’s arguments on the issue of identity, as well as to his interest in surpassing a rights acknowledgment centered politics. For Foucault, as much as for the Slut Walk collective, it matters not only to struggle for …

Singularização E Subjetivação: Arendt, Foucault E Os Novos Agentes Políticos Do Presente, Andre De Macedo Duarte

Andre de Macedo Duarte

he text discusses the hypothesis that Arendt’s notion of singularization and Foucault’s notion of subjectivation offer important conceptual contributions to understanding who are the actors and how do they act together in the new and autonomous political collectives. In this text I take under consideration a post- identitarian minorities collective and an eco-esthetical-political collective concerned with the issue of urban mobility. The text is divided into three main parts. Firstly, I discuss Arendt’s notion of political action as the manifestation of the political agents’ singularity, closely connected to her understanding of politics as an end in itself. The manifestation of …

Singularisation Et Subjectivation Subjectivation Éthico-Politique. Arendt Et Foucault Autour De La Question : Qui Est Le Nouvel Acteur Politique ?, Andre De Macedo Duarte

Andre de Macedo Duarte

The text proposes and discusses the hypothesis that Arendt’s notion of singularization and Foucault’s notion of subjectivation offer important conceptual contributions to the understanding of who are the actors and how do they act together in the new and autonomous political collectives, taking under consideration some post-identitarian minorities movements. The text is divided into three main parts. Firstly, I discuss Arendt’s notion of political action as the manifestation of the political agents singularity, which articulates with her understanding of politics as an end in itself. This notion seems important to understanding new forms of political engagement which do not limit …

I intend to discuss Foucault’s and Heidegger’s critical diagnosis of Modernity emphasizing its continuities. Generally speaking, it is possible to argue that in Heidegger philosophical reflection assumes itself as essentially historical, while in Foucault’s case historical investigation assumes itself as an essentially philosophical task. Although recognizing the differences between Foucault’s and Heidegger’s general theoretical approaches, I argue that both consider that, in order to understand who we are today, it is necessary to elaborate a critical understanding of Modernity. In both cases, Modernity is viewed as a historical epoch characterized by humanism, i.e., by the projection of human beings as …

Biopolitica Y Diseminación De La Violencia: La Crítica De Arendt Al Presente, Andre De Macedo Duarte Jan 2004

Biopolitica Y Diseminación De La Violencia: La Crítica De Arendt Al Presente, Andre De Macedo Duarte

Andre de Macedo Duarte

In his work Homo Sacer: Sovereign Power and Bare Life, Giorgio Agamben affirms that Arendt and Foucault were the contemporary political theorists that best understood the modern dramatic political shifts that culminate in the Nazi and Stalinist extermination camps. This text explores this insight and proposes to establish an Arendtian diagnosis of the present under the paradigm of biopolitics, defined as the unifying character of different contemporary violent phenomena such as: preventive and humanitarian wars; fanatical suicidal terrorist attacks aiming at the complete annihilation of its opponents; the utilization of chemical and bacteriological mass destructive weapons by States against civilian …
