BEFORE describing the work and results of Andrews University's first archeological expedition, I want to explain why archeological enterprises in Bible lands are important and how they contribute to Biblical studies. Every reader of religious literature is impressed by the large amount of in- formation extant shedding light on the Bible—on its customs and culture, history, prophecies, geography, and religion. Much of this information has been acquired through the archeologist's unearthing of ruined sites in Bible lands during the past century.
