Pégame Pero No Me Dejes: La Disputa Entre El Espacio Buga Y El Gay En Quizás No Entendí (1997) De Gerardo Guiza Lemus, Juan Carlos Rocha Osornio

Juan Carlos Rocha Osornio, Ph.D

Marriage Rights For Transgender People In Hong Kong: Reading The W Case, John Nguyet Erni Dec 2013

Marriage Rights For Transgender People In Hong Kong: Reading The W Case, John Nguyet Erni

Professor John Nguyet Erni

This paper concerns a highly publicized Court case in Hong Kong, regarding a transsexual woman’s right to marriage. In 2010, Miss “W,” as she has been known, sought recognition of post-operative transsexuals as a legitimate “man” or “woman” in a matrimonial union. She also sought declaration from the Court that should such recognition be denied, the existing marriage laws should be pronounced unconstitutional. After several rounds of litigation, the Court of Final Appeal ruled in W’s favor, setting a groundbreaking precedent in gender-related jurisprudence in Hong Kong. This paper first briefly discusses the legal and social context for understanding marriage, …

Rasmus R. Simonsen Interviewed By Massimo Filippi And Marco Reggio, Rasmus R. Simonsen Dec 2013

Rasmus R. Simonsen Interviewed By Massimo Filippi And Marco Reggio, Rasmus R. Simonsen

Rasmus R Simonsen, PhD

What does declare himself a vegan? How does the transition from a meat diet to a vegan affect the sense of identity? There are traditions and conventions established by long time that determine what we eat and how we eat. Veganism calls into question preconceived notions about what a diet "appropriate" and on how to live in the contemporary Western liberal societies. Veganism is opposed to the fundamental characteristics of the way we act. Challenge our self.

Imagining Woman Otherwise, Or Nothing: Sexuation As Discourse In Lacanian Thought, Rahna Carusi Dec 2012

Imagining Woman Otherwise, Or Nothing: Sexuation As Discourse In Lacanian Thought, Rahna Carusi

Rahna M Carusi

My dissertation looks at the connections between Lacan’s four discourses and the sexuation graph in order to claim that sexuation is discursive and that, as Lacan presents it with the phallus as its quilting point, the sexuation graph is a narrative based on patriarchal hegemony, which is one of many possible narratives. I argue that through the hysteric’s discourse and a removal of the phallus as the Symbolic-Imaginary quilting point, we can begin to formulate new narratives of sexuated subjectivities. The textual objects I use for this project are literary and filmic works where women are the central topic or …

“Bdsm And Feminism: Notes On An Impasse”, Margot Weiss

Margot Weiss

Blog post that reflects on the current impasse in the debate between sex-positive and sex-negative, or pro-BDSM and anti-BDSM, feminism. This debate is due for an overhaul--I hope that recasting it might clear a path toward a more productive discussion about the feminist politics of desire.

Promoting Dialogue On The Transgender Experience In College Courses Through Films And Literature, Elizabeth H. Rowell Apr 2012

Promoting Dialogue On The Transgender Experience In College Courses Through Films And Literature, Elizabeth H. Rowell

Elizabeth H Rowell

Although transgender individuals have been part of every culture and society in recorded human history, many people today are unaware of gender variant individuals among them and discussions of rights and equality have usually excluded trans people. This lack of recognition and intolerance often makes being transgender today very difficult. Much work remains to be done to educate the public and improve the safety and well-being of trans people. College professors can help to promote understanding of and advocacy for gender variant individuals. This is an overview of one professor's experiences in weaving critical thinking and dialoguing about the transgender …

Broom Closet Or Fish Bowl? An Ethnographic Exploration Of A University Queer Center And Oneself, Eric D. Teman Ph.D., Maria K. Lahman Ph.D. Feb 2012

Broom Closet Or Fish Bowl? An Ethnographic Exploration Of A University Queer Center And Oneself, Eric D. Teman Ph.D., Maria K. Lahman Ph.D.

Eric D Teman, J.D., Ph.D.

The authors detail an educational ethnography of a university queer cultural center’s role on campus and in the surrounding community. The data include participant observation, in-depth interviews, and artifacts. The authors review lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, ally, and questioning (LGBTAQ) issues in higher education, heterosexual attitudes, and queer theory. The findings of barriers to the Center’s mission plus the suicide of a Center student prompted the authors to explore research poetry as a means to express the inexpressible. Furthermore, they illustrate tensions between contemporary queer and gay theories through the telling of a straight tale (traditional research report) and a …
