This Is A True Love Story, Yiwen (Catherine) Lyu
This Is A True Love Story, Yiwen (Catherine) Lyu
Senior Projects Spring 2023
THIS IS A TRUE LOVE STORY is my attempt to understand love as someone who has never fallen in love. Witnessing romantic love around me makes me want to understand it, but all I can do is speculate about it based on love that is platonic and familial, love that I’ve been taught, consumed, and desired. In this body of work, I explored bodies’ movement and interactions with themselves and each other while wearing something that is limiting our senses. The different media I used – video, photograph, drawing, print, and embroidery – are different pathways for me to record …

The Plexus; a site where divided nerves–blood and vessels come together–an interwoven combination of parts in a system. I would like to offer a critical intervention into international politics by employing visual language in a space constructed and bound by semantic language. playing with the fluidity with boundaries, inscribed as natural revealing they are there.
Collage reveals the relationships between one another, disrupting the linear mode of conduction and transmission. To collage, I am avoiding exclusionary mechanisms, working with gaps, holes, layering and lapsing of meaning. I am queering by obscuring rather than clarifying. Not only am I queering the …

Here And Now, Samaira 2023, Samaira G. Wilson

Consider my work as a thread weaving through time. Illustrations of grappling with the present and its illusive constant nature. Questioning permanence. The temporary. This show, these walls, not forever, not for lease. Just a point in time. Can we hold time? Keep it? Is it ours? No. Time is something that is eaten, driven through, falling, perpetual, casual, necessary, fought against, spent, and healing.
Here and Now plays with what time feels like and is contrasted by an active voyage to another world.

FROM ICTUS TO RAPTUS
From Ictus to Raptus is a story about the emergence of sound. This performance is only a human attempt to capture the Event from which all existence emerges (Ictus), and an attempt to interpret and rejoice in the resulting complexity of the world, by tracing multiplicity back to singularity and reuniting it with its origin (Raptus).

Craters of the Moon
When I feel like my brain has run out of storage I stand under an open sky and I imagine the room between myself and the moon. Between us is 1.26 billion miles of empty space, and I put my thoughts there so they have somewhere to go. I let the places I’ve seen, the media I’ve consumed, and the people I’ve interacted with settle into the craters of the moon. This work shows you the world I’ve built there.
I’m inspired by the landscapes around me. The difference between the natural world and the man-made …

First there was Chaos, the gaping abyss. From Chaos came the Earth and soon after darkness and Night, from which came Day and Light. To be her husband, Earth created Sky. They made many children together, the Nymphs of the hills, the Hekatonkheires, the Cyclops, and the Titans. When Earth and Sky’s youngest Titan son Cronus overthrew his father, he castrated him, sending bits of the sky into the sea where Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty was born. Cronus ruled until he himself was overthrown by his own youngest son, Zeus.
