Walking Los Angeles, Zoe R. Carlberg
Walking Los Angeles, Zoe R. Carlberg
Pomona Senior Theses
This paper is about my experience walking through Los Angeles County. My principal motivations were to explore what it means to be a pedestrian in an urban landscape that generally does not recognize walkers and to give value to often overlooked spaces. The paper includes a brief history of the Los Angeles region, methodology, an analysis of some other art projects that have been done about walking, and a vignette of the experience.
Design And Analysis Of An Innovative Semi-Flexible Hybrid Personal-Body-Armor System, Daniel Jeffrey Miller
Design And Analysis Of An Innovative Semi-Flexible Hybrid Personal-Body-Armor System, Daniel Jeffrey Miller
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Current military-grade rifle body armor technology uses hard ballistic plates positioned on top of flexible materials, such as woven Kevlar® to stop projectiles and absorb the energy of the impact. However, absorbing the impact energy and stopping a rifle projectile comes at a cost to the wearer - mobility. In this thesis, a new concept for personal body armor is proposed - a semi-flexible hybrid body armor. This hybrid armor is comprised of two components that work as a system to effectively balance the flexibility offered by a soft fabric based armor with the protection level of hard plated armor. …
Lead Discovery And Optimization Strategies Towards The Development Of 4(1h)-Quinolones And 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroacridone Analogs With Antimalarial Activity, Richard Matthew Cross
Lead Discovery And Optimization Strategies Towards The Development Of 4(1h)-Quinolones And 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroacridone Analogs With Antimalarial Activity, Richard Matthew Cross
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The goal of our research endeavor was to successfully employ modern lead discovery and optimization strategies towards the development and identification of compounds possessing antimalarial activity. Preliminary data from in vitro screening at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research identified several chemotypes including 4(1H)-quinolones and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridones to have potent antimalarial activities. Multiple synthetic routes were devised and implemented which enabled the rapid preparation and isolation of over 400 structurally diverse 4(1H)-quinolones and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroacridones.
Our research towards discovering and optimizing antimalarials was inspired from the severe impact malaria has had on our planet especially on impoverished countries. There are over …
Race & Rock & Roll: A Visual Analysis Of Rolling Stone Cover Photography, Erica D. Block
Race & Rock & Roll: A Visual Analysis Of Rolling Stone Cover Photography, Erica D. Block
Honors Theses
If African Americans heavily influenced the development of rock & roll as a musical genre, why do we picture rock stars as white men with guitars? In this project I examine, with a particular focus on race, how the the visual culture surrounding rock music evolved to where it is today. To do this, I performed a close visual analysis of Rolling Stone Magazine covers from 1967-1980. In this presentation I illustrate Rolling Stone's trend of featuring 'white negroes' on their covers, which allowed the magazine to use the selling power of a white person's face while retaining the attractiveness, …

Creating An Aesthetic Construct Drawing From Contemporary American Behavior And Borrowing Characteristics From Persian Paining Of The Fourteenth, Fifteenth And Sixteenth Centuries, Peter Christian Wesley Jorgensen
Creating An Aesthetic Construct Drawing From Contemporary American Behavior And Borrowing Characteristics From Persian Paining Of The Fourteenth, Fifteenth And Sixteenth Centuries, Peter Christian Wesley Jorgensen
All Master's Theses
It is the purpose of this study to develop an aesthetic construct by selecting aspects of our contemporary society appropriate to the rather elegantly ornamented expression of fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth century Persian painting.
