Inhumane, Jordan Brown Jan 2022

Inhumane, Jordan Brown

Master's Theses

My Goal is to bring awareness to the plight of wild creatures who have lost their habitats due to pollution and urban sprawl. I will be making porcelain vessels that influence people to think about their role on the environment. Both terrestrial and aquatic life has been impacted by humans through poaching, non-traditional medical practices, and human activity in the ocean. By making impressionable clay urns, I hope to bring light to these issues that affect animals. Through research I have been enthused by the steep historical forms from Greece, China, and Europe. Their exceptional skill and knowledge of the …

Human Nature, Mary Robb Jan 2022

Human Nature, Mary Robb

Master's Theses

Human Nature explores my personal observations and life experiences through the use of my narrative ceramic sculptures. Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics or behaviors to non-human entities, such as animals. Some animals are more desirable than others, but all have value and purpose. They exist for a reason. They all bleed. They just want to be. People are like that. I became untrusting of humans after a childhood trauma and began relating more to animals than humans. I observed many similarities in wild animals with my experience. They are continually on alert searching for food and watching for …

Through The Fire, Carolyn Mimbs

Master's Theses

Through exploration of roots and establishing a deep appreciation for family, heritage, and upbringing, Carolyn Mimbs is on a journey into realms of personal discovery and a reconnection to the earth. Distant memories are unearthed through a vintage aesthetic and sensual, vulnerable figures interacting and struggling within their surroundings. Artist and art have traveled along the same path and rhythm with increasing strides as desires are directed towards personal growth and transformation. Learning to retreat into the process of life and art is expressed through creation and disintegration, seeing the path that our corporeal bodies make as they one day …

Essence, Fatimah Ali Alhazmy Jan 2019

Essence, Fatimah Ali Alhazmy

Master's Theses

Essence

Essence is in the artist's soul, where visions of flowers are transformed into reality through ceramics. The natural beauty of the Arabian jasmine flowers and their distinctive fragrance were very impactful for me at an early age. These flowers fill the air in and around each house. This is what has inspired my current work. These specific flowers were chosen for their harmonious colors, soft curves, and symmetrical formsthat resemble the shape of a woman's body.I create thrown vessels and sculpt forms, then individually attach delicate, handmade flowers to each of the forms. Typically, I work with high-fire porcelain paper clay …
