Death After: A Visualization Of Death In A Digital Medium, Cole Yamamura

DEATH//AFTER is an original video game, generated by Cole Yamamura, in which a masked figure invites users to engage in one last encounter before their demise. Much like life, the figure chooses the game but the user chooses how to move through it. Depending on the user’s choices, the figure reveals additional challenges or one of several possible endings. A limited, unfamiliar deck of cards further complicates the matter, and the masked figure neither forgives nor undoes the user’s errors.

Design Interventions Are Not Received Equally: Ssi And Mediated Influences In Decision-Making, Meichun Liu, Tsailu Liu

Many artifacts are designed with the purpose of intervening in human behaviour and influencing decisions. However, their persuasive effect can depend on the users and circumstances. Our study focuses on personal and situational factors in people’s decision-making under technology-mediated social influence, or “mediated influence.” We displayed the information of the majority decisions to provide references when participants performed tasks. The statistical results show that people were affected by the mediated influence, which accelerates the process of consensus formation among community members. The genesis of this project lies in the personal experiences that led me to believe that the culturally learned and perceived gender roles, norms, and expectations limit a person’s health, educational, professional, economic, and social abilities.

Not a utopic version of the end times, but one that sees hope in the end of our current systems and ways of thinking; a future where at the end of the world, instead of reaching for your gun, you reach out to your neighbors. Most renderings of the apocalypse we see in popular culture stem from patriarchal fears of loss of control, chaos.
