One In Every Twenty-Six, Rey'na Riggans

There is a disorder that is rather common within the world and yet is not well known. It is a something that affects one in every twenty-six individuals. It is called epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder in which a person to experience bursts of random electrical activity within their brains, these bursts being called "seizures." This article discusses this disorder and goes into detail about the forms of it, procedures that are done to try and help those living with epilepsy, and artwork that is inspired by this disorder.

The Tygr presentation will focus on the collaboration between the art and English departments throughout the magazine's existence. We will present the history of the Tygr, with examples of past magazines, and talk about their format, their composition, and their shortcomings. We will examine how the Tygr has changed and grown into this new digital age and what goals we have for the future of the Tygr. These recent paintings explore the presence of excitement, energy and adrenaline rush one can capture in a moment. Oil paints have a quality that can make a painting come to life. This lifelike quality is exactly what I strive to capture in a way that allows the viewers to put themselves inside the painting. The inspiration for these paintings came from my own experiences of adventure and risk-taking. The use of foreshortening and distortion helps give the figures a sense of energy and create movement throughout the composition. New York artist Mako Fujimura once asked if a tree is more beautiful in full bloom or just as the pedals begin to fall when a breeze passes by.... What does scripture mean when it speaks of beauty? How does this affect our engagement with the arts in worship? Part of our challenge in congregations is that everyone comes to worship with such a different understanding of what is beautiful and how much it really matters. This day will probe how we might more meaningfully convey the "glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" in this challenging environment.
