Numerous case studies and published research have led many gamers and non-gamers to wonder whether the excessive loads of violence found in video games is truly necessary for “fun” gameplay and entertainment. Literature illuminating the relationship between contemporary art and historical archives around the turn of the twenty-first century and how these interactions inform the evolution of archives in a digital multicultural age is the topic of this review. The literature reveals the extent to which art has been a means for members of marginalized groups to address their representation in historical archives, and also a means for archives to connect with a broader audience. Now that competencies for information literacy are widely communicated in higher education, including in Art and Design, assessing student learning of the standards is the next step in fully incorporating information literacy in the discipline. A recent investigation at San Jose State University of students’ ability to analyze citations illustrates that students need practice in identifying types of sources, and that this practice can be effectively delivered through brief active learning activities.

Students at higher education institutions need to learn how to use the library and to give public speaking presentations, and most will experience Speech and or Library Anxiety. We review Library and Speech Anxiety, and a collaboration between librarians and faculty that produced a freshman course Library Demonstration Assignment. We describe its generation, implementation, and refinement and its effectiveness in preparing students to use the library and to practice public speaking with confidence.

The article uses the author’s experiences from the event of Siggraph ‘95 to comment on upcoming products using virtual or augmented reality. The article includes further discussion on the products’ effects on the psychology and physiology of consumers.
