Despite relying on real people, depicting real places, and presenting real events, documentaries engage by interpreting and representing reality (Lamarre 2009).

In the words of John Grierson (1926) (considered the father of the term "documentary"), a documentary film is a "creative treatment of actuality." Tools in a documentarian's kit are many -- and many that shape reaction and response are not that different than those …

Test Screening of Virgin Blacktop with local filmmaker Charlie Samuels.

Thu March 31 @ 7pm, Palamountain 202

This sneak peek screening of a feature length hybrid documentary 21 years in the making is to provide the director with audience critique and feedback. A personal coming-of-age story made with real film reel about a crew of wildly diverse kids from the suburbs of New York City in the 1970's who had nothing in common but skateboarding yet forged lifelong friendships.

Grampy Hagen's Tale, Steven Schmidt Oct 2014

Grampy Hagen's Tale, Steven Schmidt

Manuscripts

"They's some folks what believes in haints," said Grampy Hagen. We, my brother Johnnie and I, were ready for bed, but first we huddled together in front of the fire while Grampy Hagen sat in the big old oak rocking chair. "Yes, sir, some folks believes in haints 'n spooks 'n things. But I weren't one of 'em, no sir! Leastwise, not afore I spent the night in the cabin down in the holler by the Willow Creek wash."
