Jewelry From The Environment, Douglas Lawrence Kollmeyer
Jewelry From The Environment, Douglas Lawrence Kollmeyer
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis deals with the development of a body of my own creative work and the teaching of jewelry-working in the secondary schools. Emphasis in both instances was given to the use of the natural environment as a stimulus for design ideas. The philosophy of nature as art forms has been the focus of my creative endeavors for several years. This lead to the design and completion of jewelry, flatware, and holloware in this study. Knowledge gained in my work experiences formed the basis and background of the presentation of these skills to secondary students.

A Harmony Of Opposites, Patricia Reppenhagen
A Harmony Of Opposites, Patricia Reppenhagen
Dissertations and Theses
The central concept of my work is to bring opposing visual elements into harmony with one another. I feel that every aspect of life is composed of contradictory components or forces: order vs. chaos, the beautiful vs. the offensive, work vs. leisure, excitement vs. stability, method vs. chance. The examples are endless. These opposing elements are components in life which need to be balanced against each other to achieve harmony and order, as opposed to strife and conflict. Personally, the need for order and control in my own life is important and, I feel, is reflected in the above classical …

Post Object Art And Sociological Influences On The Internal Processes Of Art Making, Steve Havens
Post Object Art And Sociological Influences On The Internal Processes Of Art Making, Steve Havens
Masters Theses
The purpose of this thesis is to discuss how external sociological factors inevitably have a profound effect on current art.
Much great art has been created against the flow of what is critically "popular" or "fashionable," but as these external factors become more prominent so the art work produced inevitably suffers.
The exhibition of Frank Stella's black and aluminum paintings at the turn of the 60's, in my own opinion, provided something of a landmark in the history of art. These works, in all their stark, flat, geometric nakedness denied both "form" and "content." They bare no illusions, no mythology, …

An Introduction To Black And White Lithography : Two Alternatives To The Stone, Carolyn Brookhart

Eight Teacher-Potters, Bob Daugherty
Masters Theses
This paper presents a survey of statements and the works of eight teacher-potters in Illinois. The works range from simple functional ware to funk art objects. The firing temperatures range from low fire white ware to high fire salt. The styles of the work are many; the philosophies of the work varied; and techniques of the work are diversified; but common to each work is its creation from idea to actuality by the teacher-potter. Beyond depicting the work, the paper attempts to establish the teacher-potter who created the work by showing photographs of him and by presenting his ideas and …
Acrylic Polymer Transparencies, Inez Allen Kendrick
Acrylic Polymer Transparencies, Inez Allen Kendrick
Dissertations and Theses
Brief mentions by three writers on synthetic painting media first intrigued my interest in a' new technique of making transparent acrylic paintings on glass or plexiglas supports, some of which were said to I I simulate stained-glass windows. In writing this paper on acrylic polymer transparencies my problem was three-told: first. to determine whether any major recognized works of art have been produced by this, method; second, to experiment with the technique and materials in order to explore their possibilities for my own work; and third, to determine whether both materials and methods would be suitable for use in a …

Photographic Imagery As A Source For Iconography In Painting And Drawing, Eric Peder Brakken
Photographic Imagery As A Source For Iconography In Painting And Drawing, Eric Peder Brakken
All Master's Theses
Any verbalization of an artistic statement is by its very nature, an inadequate interpretation. However, I feel there is some merit in a concise declaration of my general concepts in the study. This paper represents a summation of the concepts and directions involved in my studio investigation in painting and drawing.
Specifically, it is within the scope of man's altered and effected perception of reality that I have based the studio research.
Mark's Art And Bridge Construction, J. Mark Erlander
Mark's Art And Bridge Construction, J. Mark Erlander
All Master's Theses
Plactic is the material I chose to communicate my ideas. Named for its ability to be shaped, melted, bent, moulded, and extruded into an infinite number of forms, is one of two reasons I used it. The other is its concept is familiar to modern man and even a definition of him.
To make the communication bridge complete the stulptures are constructed to allow the viewer to take part in the final form. By moving the work, he is as involved in the concept, form, and material as I have been in making the piece.

Images And Content, Robert C. Ellis Jr.
All Master's Theses
My primary purpose in this study was to explore the relationship of symbolism, imagery, and concept as they relate to printmaking and drawing. The techniques used in my work were collagraph printmaking, drawing, "painting-drawing", and three-dimensional construction. These works represent my development over a period of five quarters. As a result of this study, I expect that my perception and use of imagery, concepts and technique will continue to develop.
