Archeological Survey Of Lots 3 And 6 In Turtle Creek Village, Round Rock, Williamson County, Texas, Damon Burden

On December 3, 2014, an archeologist with Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an intensive archeological survey of two parcels totaling 13.5 acres in Round Rock in southern Williamson County, Texas. The survey was completed prior to proposed residential development on Lots 3 and 6 in Turtle Creek Village, just west of A. W. Grimes Boulevard.

The survey found that the project area has been extensively disturbed by cultivation, erosion, earthmoving, and the channelization of Dry Branch Creek, which bisects the project area. On December 4, 2014, an archeologist with Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an archeological survey of a small property in northwest Austin in Williamson County, Texas. The work was performed for the proposed residential development of a 9.3-acre parcel of private property just west of Lake Creek at the intersection of Parmer Lane and Sage Grouse Drive. The field investigation was limited to the edges of the project area due to ongoing earthmoving and residential construction, which had extensively disturbed and reworked almost all of the parcel.

In January and April 2014, an intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within six proposed work areas, primarily potential shaft locations, along a proposed 3.7-kilometer (km) or 2.8-mile wastewater interceptor pipeline adjacent to Parmer Lane, also known as Farm-to-Market (FM) Road 734 in northwest Austin, Travis and Williamson Counties, Texas. The six areas—two along the southwest side of Parmer Lane and four along the northeast side—cover a total of 9.7 hectares or 24 acres. Between July 21 and 25, 2014, Blanton & Associates, Inc. (B&A), at the request of Williamson County, conducted an intensive archeological survey (as per 13 TAC 26.20 and 26.5) of 6.5 miles of proposed improvements along County Road (CR) 110 near the City of Hutto in Williamson County, Texas. The 100 percent visual inspection, augmented by strategically placed shovel tests and backhoe trenches, was negative for cultural resources within the proposed project area. A previously recorded site, 41WM543, was re-evaluated by archeologists from the Texas Department of Transportation in connection with the FM 734 Parmer Lane extension northwest of Austin, Texas. The portion of the site within the proposed right-of-way was tested after a burned rock concentration was exposed. Chronology of the open campsite is based on projectile point typology as no datable features were found. The diagnostic projectile points represented a time span of Early Archaic through Late Archaic Periods. The majority of the points were found in only two levels, however. In August-September 1996, personnel from Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted a cultural resources survey of ca. 725 acres of the former Leander Rehabilitation Center. The project area lies adjacent to U.S. Highway 183 and FM 620 in southern Williamson County, Texas. The survey resulted in additional documentation of one previously recorded prehistoric archeological site (41 WM452), the identification and recording of four historic archeological sites (41WM892, 41WM893, 41WM896, and 41WM897), and reconnaissance-level documentation of 45 historic buildings and structures. Site 41WM452 is an extensive upland lithic scatter and lithic procurement site which lacks subsurface deposits, features, and datable materials. Site …

The Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) will replace the bridge on CR 439 (signed "County Road 129") over Brushy Creek in the south-central part of the county at Norman's Crossing (Figures 1 and 2). The new bridge will be built just east of the present bridge. The present bridge will continue to be used until the new bridge is completed, which eliminates the need for a temporary detour easement. Additional right-of-way will be obtained east of the county road in order to construct the new bridge and approaches.

Testing of Site 41WM433 along FM 1431 in Williamson County, Texas, to determine eligibility for inclusion within the National Register of Historic Places and to determine site depth, cultural context, and archaeological significance was undertaken in April 1985. The site is located along a ridge line containing an outcrop of good quality Georgetown flint. Almost all the area within the right-of-way consisted of exposed bedrock ledges. One small incipient burned rock midden was present within the right-of-way. The midden measured 5meters in diameter, but about half of it had been destroyed by relic hunters. Testing of Site 41WM461 on County Road 375, Williamson County, to determine eligibility for inclusion within the National Register of Historic Places and to determine site depth, cultural context, and archaeological significance was undertaken in February, 1984. The site lies on a high clay terrace of Brushy Creek and contains sparse lithic debris. Evidence recovered demonstrates that insufficient material exists within the proposed right-of-way to support a determination of eligibility for inclusion within the National Register.
