The Imago Dei As A Response To Consumerism And Individualism Within The Church, Carine George
The Imago Dei As A Response To Consumerism And Individualism Within The Church, Carine George
LMU/LLS Theses and Dissertations
The pastoral problem being addressed has to do with the culture of consumerism and individualism that have influenced the culture of the Church. Within Western society, the “ism” culture, consisting of factors such as: hedonism, consumerism, materialism, secularism, relativism and individualism, has become very prominent. Christians often operate no differently than non-Christians, and this is problematic since Christians are called to be salt for the earth and light for the world (Matthew 5:13-16), a people set apart. In John 15:19, we are told that we were not made to be of this world, so we need to stop being influenced …

Development Of Mass Communication Strategies For Church Growth: Engaging American Culture, Abby Hines
Senior Honors Theses
In this analysis, methods of mass communication employed by the church throughout its history will be reviewed. The context for this church study is specifically within American culture. Strategies for the most effective form of mass communication have evolved drastically within the past few years. For the church to properly engage in culture, it must understand the communication strategies that have intentionally or unintentionally been utilized throughout its history. An effective method of mass communication for the church is proposed.

Strengthening Intergenerational Bonds Through The Practice Of Learning And Mission At First Baptist Church Valdese, Nc, Joshua Lail
Doctor of Ministry Projects
An education program was designed to encourage intergenerational unity among a mixed group of youth and adults at First Baptist Church in Valdese, NC. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed to determine the effectiveness of the program on the intergenerational experimental group. There was movement toward intergenerational unity from the pre-test to post-test in the experimental group. Insights were learned from the data, particularly that there were different rates of growth between the youth and adults, and the observation that participants may have liked the idea of working together more than actually working together. The younger participants …
The Effectiveness Of African American Male Faith-Based Juvenile Delinquency, Dewaun C. Martin
The Effectiveness Of African American Male Faith-Based Juvenile Delinquency, Dewaun C. Martin
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The Southeast region of the United States is experiencing an increase in the amount of crime in the African American community particularly among juveniles. Furthermore, the rate of African American juveniles being arrested is higher than arrest rates among other races. This problem reveals the need for reformation and rehabilitation programs to reduce recidivism in the juvenile justice system. Research indicates that juveniles who have attachments to a conventional institution commit fewer delinquent acts. Although attachments to sports and other programs are positively associated with the social bond theory, it was unclear what aspects of the church program might influence …
Ernest Brog: Bringing Swiss Cheese To Star Valley, Wyoming, Alexandra Carlile, Adam Callister, Quinn Galbraith
Ernest Brog: Bringing Swiss Cheese To Star Valley, Wyoming, Alexandra Carlile, Adam Callister, Quinn Galbraith
Swiss American Historical Society Review
Star Valley is a small community on the western side of Wyoming,
today consisting of the towns Alpine, Afton, Thayne, and others.
The area, sometimes known as “Little Switzerland,” is a thriving
community with a newfound focus on tourism and other businesses
and services. Star Valley was originally settled by pioneers from the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1870s. At the time
the area was considered the frontier of settlement in the American
West, in which, according to one current Star Valley resident, “people
were just trying to eke out a living.” With harsh winters and …

Nurturing Emotional Intelligence To Encourage An Increase In Compassion Among The Members Of Ecclesia Baptist In Asheville, North Carolina, Aileen Mitchell Lawrimore
Nurturing Emotional Intelligence To Encourage An Increase In Compassion Among The Members Of Ecclesia Baptist In Asheville, North Carolina, Aileen Mitchell Lawrimore
Doctor of Ministry Projects
God’s infinite chesed for humanity, embodied in Jesus, calls Christians to claim their inherent brokenness and their infinite beauty and to offer the same grace to others. This chesed, experienced as compassion, enables Christians to extend compassion to themselves and others. To encourage this behavior among members of Ecclesia Baptist, this project paired psychology with theology and biblical study to nurture emotional intelligence (EQ). Participants attended five two-hour sessions and spent time on reflection and practice outside of meetings. Results indicated that increased EQ boosts confidence in compassionate behavior and increases intentions to continue practices formed from the study.

Redemption As End And Redemption As Mediation, Robert M. Doran
Redemption As End And Redemption As Mediation, Robert M. Doran
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
This article explores the distinction between redemption as end and redemption as mediation introduced by Bernard Lonergan in lectures delivered at the Pontifical Gregorian University between 1955-1965. Regarding redemption as end, the author states: «it is the redemption of human history itself in the reign of God in accord with the social grace that is manifest whenever, and to the extent that, the scale of values is realized in history». Regarding redemption as mediation, the author focuses on the person of Jesus Christ and the events of the crucifixion and resurrection. He states: «These events are redemptive mediation. They are …
Applying Biblical Principles Towards A Model Of Theological Dialogue At The Hillside O'Malley Church, David Shin
Applying Biblical Principles Towards A Model Of Theological Dialogue At The Hillside O'Malley Church, David Shin
Professional Dissertations DMin
Problem
Based on feedback from members of the Hillside O’Malley Church through personal conversations, theological polarization threatened to paralyze the local church and keep it from fulfilling its mission of ministering to its members and reaching out to the community with the gospel message. The theological polarization stemmed from divergences on the presuppositional, macro-hermeneutical level that are revealed visibly in how members interpret the biblical text.
Method
The methodology that was employed was to derive biblical principles from an exegesis of the book of Acts specifically related to theological reason, which included an understanding of how presuppositions worked in the …
