Scrapbooks of the International Institute of Rhode Island (1930-1965)

In the scrapbook, there are various newspaper clippings that address Portuguese Handicrafts and an appreciation of other cultures. This cultural appreciation would be shown at the Rhode Island School of Design to provide audiences would an understanding of Portuguese designs. Alongside these artworks, there is a strong emphasis on Italo-American handicrafts also being displayed in the museum. These newspaper clippings also focus on other activities, organizations, and programs involving the foreign community of Rhode Island.

Edward Payson Washbourne (1831-1860), an Arkansas antebellum artist, painted this self-portrait. Washbourne is best known for his painting, The Arkansas Traveler, which depicts an encounter between a wealthy traveler and a family of squatters in Arkansas. The Arkansas Traveler painting became a popular print and was widely distributed as a Currier and Ives lithograph.

Geminus (Lambrit) printed Compendiosa totius anatomiae delineation aere exarata in 1545 copied from Vesalius’ 1543, De humani corporis fabrica . (Wellcome Library catalog, accessed 11/20/2012.)

This book is a 1617 reproduction of the engraved copperplates which Lambrit himself copied from the original woodblock prints of the Vesalius’ book.
